\nThe Jaltest JT2003is the heaviest of the three Jaltest multimeters and the only one withTrue RMS on the front. The housing features the printed IP65 and comes in a sturdy protective rimwith a fold-outstandard and a torch at the top. Below the rotary switch are located four measurement leadsin two rows, marked µA mA, A, COM and the socket for voltage, resistance, capacitance and frequency.\n

\nThe displayshows four digits with AUTO, DC and BL indicators, and below that abeam scale from 0 to 60. In addition to the standard settings, the button LoZ, LPF, a position marked Motor and a combined AC+DC-stand; the button PEAK is part of the same series. The A-bus is printed with 20 A max, the highest current range of the three meters.\n

IMPORTANT POINTS

✕With a specified weight of 568.5 g is this the heaviest of the three; the JT2001 weighs 269 g and the JT2002 at 350 g.
✕The rotary switch has no position for temperature, and there is no thermocouple supplied.
✕DeA-bus may according to the marking be at most 30 seconds per 15 minutes are loaded; the µA mA bus remains on 600 mA max available.
✕An NCV function is not included; within this range it is only available on the JT2001 and JT2004.

Application and functionality

The JT2003 is the most robust model of the three and built for work outside the clean workbench: IP65 rating on the housing, a torch and a range of functions that the other two do not have. The list below follows the rotary dial and the buttons above it.

What you can measure with the rotary dial

  • AC voltage with LoZ: Position marked LoZ, with low input impedance to prevent ghost voltage.
  • Motor mode with low-pass filter: Position marked Motor and LPF.
  • DC voltage and AC+DC: Position marked AC+DC, which measures the DC and AC components together.
  • Millivolt: Separate position with the symbol for DC and AC voltage.
  • Resistance, continuity and diode: Combined on one position.
  • Capacitance: Its own position with the capacitor symbol.
  • Frequency and duty cycle: Its own position marked Hz%.
  • Current in µA, mA and A: Three positions, each with the symbol for DC and AC current.

What the buttons and test leads do

  • RANGE: Switches automatic range selection to manual operation.
  • MAX MIN: Captures the highest and lowest measured values.
  • REL: Sets the current measured value as the zero reference point.
  • PEAK: Records brief voltage or current spikes.
  • HOLD: Freezes the measured value on the display.
  • Display backlight: Dedicated button with an off position marked on the same label.
  • Torch: Dedicated button for the lamp located at the top of the instrument.
  • SELECT: Switches between combined functions within a mode.
  • Bus µA mA: Rated at 600 mA maximum and protected at 1000V maximum.
  • Bus A: Rated at 20 A maximum, protected at 1000V maximum, maximum 30 seconds per 15 minutes.
  • Buses COM and voltage: Jointly rated at CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V.

Difference from other Jaltest multimeters

In the webshop there are three Jaltest multimeters listed under the same name Multimeter. The JT2003 is the most robust model, featuring True RMS, IP65 and the highest current range. Below is how the other two differ.

What you need to measure determines the choice, not the model number. The JT2003 is the only one of the three with an IP rating, a torch and an A terminal up to 20 A.

Jaltest JT2001 | Multimeter (overview):

  • Range selection: Fully manual, with all ranges individually selectable via rotary dial.
  • Test leads: Three, marked 10A MAX, COM and V mA µA.
  • Safety category: CAT II 250V.
  • Current: DC only, up to 10 A.
  • Special function: NCV, for non-contact voltage detection.

Jaltest JT2002 | Multimeter (overview):

  • Range selection: Automatic, with Autorange displayed on screen.
  • Safety category: CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V, equivalent to the JT2003.
  • Current: Up to 10 A on the 10A terminal, compared to 20 A on the JT2003.
  • Special function: Temperature in °C and °F.
  • Display: Four digits, without analogue bar scale.
  • Included: One type K thermocouple with measurement adapter, but no storage case.
💡
Good to know: Set the dial to the LoZ position if a disconnected wire still shows voltage. A meter with high input impedance picks up voltage induced by adjacent conductors, which can cause a de-energised wire to display tens of volts. The low input impedance of the LoZ setting drains that voltage; if you read zero in LoZ, there really is nothing on the wire.
