The Jaltest JDC303A connects the 3+6-pin diagnostic connector of ZF to the 16-pin OBD2 input of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. Two branches come out of the OBD2 housing, with natural white nylon plugs: one with six positions in two rows of three and one with three positions in a single row, each with a black strain relief. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm, and the cable works with the Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9.

The connector belongs to the ZF control unit itself and is not located at the vehicle's OBD port. Behind it sit the units from the ZF Transmissions coverage group: the Ecomat 1, Ecomat 2/4 and EcoLife bus transmissions, the automated gearboxes AS Tronic, AS Tronic Lite, EcoTronic, PowerLine, TraXon and AVS, and the retarders EST-32, EST-42 and Intarder 3. Because the plug is separate from the vehicle diagnostics, it remains in use even if the vehicle itself already has a 16-pin OBD port. The cable falls under Jaltest CV.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕The Ecomat 4 Mate N-Lock and the EcoLife MCP have their own 9-pin connector and require the JDC307A and the JDC309A respectively.
✕Only for the 3+6-pin ZF connector; ZF used its own diagnostic plug per generation.
✕The range of functions differs per gearbox: for the Ecomat 2/4, parameters are included in the coverage, but for the Ecomat 1 and EcoLife they are not.
✕At 28 to 30 cm, the cable is short, and the connector is located at the gearbox and not in the cab.

Applications and functions

With this cable, the Jaltest software accesses the ZF control unit fitted with the 3+6-pin plug. Jaltest groups the ZF systems together in the ZF Transmissions coverage group, regardless of the vehicle in which the gearbox is installed. What you can do per unit differs by generation.

  1. Locating the plug: Find the two white plugs at the gearbox.
  2. Counting positions: Six and three positions: then it fits.
  3. Connecting: Insert both branches into the ZF connector.
  4. Link pairing: Connect the OBD2 side to the Jaltest Link.
  5. Reading out: Select the ZF unit in Jaltest CV.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The plug is decisive, not the vehicle make. This cable fits every ZF gearbox and ZF retarder with the 3+6-pin diagnostic connector, regardless of the chassis in which it is installed. Because the connector belongs to the gearbox and not to the vehicle, there is no construction year limit.

ZF gearboxes:

  • Bus transmissions: Ecomat 1, Ecomat 2/4 and EcoLife.
  • Automated gearboxes: AS Tronic, AS Tronic Lite, EcoTronic, PowerLine, TraXon and AVS.

ZF retarders:

  • Auxiliary brakes: EST-32, EST-42 and Intarder 3 (EST-52/EST-54).

Vehicles:

  • Trucks, buses and work vehicles: From a range of makes; the cable follows the ZF unit and not the chassis manufacturer.

Good to know: If you see two white plugs at the gearbox, one with six and one with three positions, then this is the correct cable. If there is instead one 9-pin connector, it concerns the Ecomat 4 Mate N-Lock (JDC307A) or the EcoLife MCP (JDC309A). Count the positions at the gearbox before ordering.
