The Jaltest JDC201A connects the 8-pin diagnostic connector of Volvo Trucks to the 16-pin OBD2 port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the vehicle side is a black rectangular connector with eight sockets in two rows of four and a straight cable entry. The connector is located in the cab; the cable is 28 to 30 cm long.

With the connection, the Jaltest software reads the control units that are covered for these Volvo generations. These are the engine control unit EDC, the central vehicle control unit VECU, the transmission control unit TECU with GECU, the brake systems ABS and EBS, the air suspension ECS, and the instrument, bodywork and tachograph modules. Volvo kept this connector until Euro IV (October 2005). The cable works with the Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under Jaltest CV.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕The number of control units varies greatly by model. On the FL 6, Jaltest runs the engine, VECU, brakes, instrument panel and air suspension; on the FH 12 V2 there are dozens.
✕Only for the 8-pin Volvo connector; from Euro IV (October 2005) you connect directly to the 16-pin OBD2.
✕Which engine control unit you encounter depends on the model year. On the latest model years, Jaltest covers EDC Euro 4/5 in addition to EDC Euro 3.
✕At 28 to 30 cm the cable is short, so you work close to the connector in the cab.

Applications and functionality

The cable is intended for workshops that read out older Volvo trucks with the Jaltest Link. Which units are present varies by model and model year; a light FL 6 is simpler equipped than an FH 12 V2.

  1. Check the connector: Locate the 8-pin connector in the cab.
  2. Connect: Plug the JDC201A into the connector.
  3. Link pairing: Connect the OBD2 side to the Jaltest Link.
  4. Ignition on: Switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
  5. Read out: Select Volvo, the series and the system.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector is decisive, not the model. The cable fits Volvo trucks with the 8-pin diagnostic connector from before Euro IV. Below are the generations in the Jaltest CV coverage; the end year has been cut off at October 2005. The two rows of four sockets let you see whether you have the correct connector.

Volvo Trucks:

  • FH 12 (all series up to and including V2): Model years 1993 to 2005.
  • FH 16 (all series up to and including V2): Model years 1993 to 2005.
  • FM 7 / FM 10 / FM 12: Model years 1998 to 2005.
  • FM 9 V2: Model years 2002 to 2005.
  • FL 6: Model years 1985 to 2005.
  • FL 7: Model years 1985 to 2000.
  • FL 10: Model years 1985 to 2000.
  • FL 12: Model years 1995 to 2000.
💡
Good to know: The 8-pin connector is in the cab and is rectangular, with eight pins in two rows of four. From Euro IV (October 2005), Volvo uses the 16-pin OBD2 connector, which you connect to directly. Count the pins in your cab before ordering.
