The Jaltest JDC211A connects the older 6-pin Deutsch diagnostic connector found on commercial and work vehicles to a 9-pin J1939 connector. On the vehicle side, there is a round plug with a light grey coupling ring and a red inner ring, containing six grey sleeves with four populated positions. The other end features a black 9-pin Deutsch housing with mounting flange, with positions marked by letters. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm and works with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9.

The 6-pin connector belongs to the SAE J1708/J1587-databus, the serial diagnostic standard that heavy vehicles used before the faster J1939 on CAN became the standard. This cable is a connector adapter, not a system cable: it provides the correct pin assignment between that 6-pin connector and your 9-pin J1939 diagnostic cable, allowing you to access older vehicles with a single set of cables. Which control units you subsequently see depends on the Jaltest coverage of the connected vehicle or machine. The cable falls under Jaltest CV (commercial vehicles).

KEY BENEFITS

Brand-independent: The cable follows the standardised connector rather than a manufacturer or system.
Enables access to the older 6-pin Deutsch connector from your 9-pin J1939 cable, eliminating the need to maintain a second diagnostic set.
Thelight grey coupling ringwith thered inner ringis immediately recognisable on the vehicle, so you'll know in advance whether this cable is compatible.
According to manufacturer specifications 28 to 30 cm language and compatible with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The cable terminates at 9-pin J1939 and not on 16-pin OBD2: You have the Jaltest 9-pin diagnostic cable required to use it.
No own coverage: Which control units and features are available, it comes from the Jaltest coverage for the relevant vehicle or machine.
Only for the 6-pin Deutsch connector; vehicles that already have a9-pin J1939 connector have, connect directly.
The same 6-pin connector is also found on marine engines; for this reason Jaltest performs the JDC629A, which terminates in a 16-pin OBD2 connector and falls under Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality

\nThis cable enables the connection; what you can subsequently read out depends on the vehicle or machine you connect to. On the J1708/J1587 line typically carry the heaviest control units, such as the engine control and the transmission control. Which manufacturer has placed what on that line varies by vehicle.

Control units you can access

  • Control units on the diagnostic line: Via the 6-pin Deutsch connector, Jaltest communicates with the control units that the manufacturer has connected to that line, such as engine and transmission control.
  • Varies by vehicle: The manufacturer determines which systems are available on this connector; the Jaltest coverage for the relevant vehicle shows this per model.

What you can do

  • According to the vehicle coverage: Fault codes, measured values and other functions come from the Jaltest coverage of the connected vehicle or machine.
  • The cable adds nothing and removes nothing: It simply provides the correct pin assignment between the 6-pin Deutsch connector and the 9-pin J1939 cable.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector is what matters, not the brand. This cable is for the 6-pin Deutsch diagnostic connector according to SAE J1708/J1587. Because that connector is defined in a standard and not by a manufacturer, it appears on various makes and models. Heavy-duty vehicles have never been prescribed a manufacturer-specific diagnostic connector, so you will find it on anything from the J1708 era.

Application:

  • Commercial and work vehicles: With a 6-pin Deutsch diagnostic connector according to SAE J1708/J1587.
  • Vehicle make is not the determining factor: The cable follows the standardised connector.
  • For use with the 9-pin J1939 diagnostic cable from Jaltest: The cable terminates on that connector and not on 16-pin OBD2.
💡
Good to know: Note the difference with the JDC629A: That has the same 6-pin Deutsch connector on the engine side, but terminates in 16-pin OBD2 and belongs to Jaltest Marine for inboard engines. This JDC211A terminates in 9-pin J1939 and is for commercial and work vehicles. So check not only the connector on the vehicle, but also the cable you attach to your Link.
