The Jaltest JDC505A connects the 9-pin diagnostic connector of Caterpillar and Perkins engines to the 16-pin OBD2 input of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the machine side is a round bayonet connector with a black housing, a light grey coupling ring and a red-brown insert with nine female sockets, eight in a ring and one in the centre. Caterpillar and Perkins use the same connector, so one cable serves both engine manufacturers. The cable is 28 to 30 cm long.
The cable passes the engine communication lines through to the Jaltest Link. This allows the Jaltest software to reach the proprietary data lines CDL on Caterpillar and PDL on Perkins, the open J1939 bus, the older SAE J1708 line and the EMCP control for power generation. The J1939 control unit of Caterpillar engines has no functions in the coverage table; the usable diagnostics are on the CDL. The cable falls under Jaltest AGV, OHW and Marine.

Applications and functions
The cable is intended for workshops that read out Caterpillar and Perkins engines in machines, vessels and generator sets. Jaltest lists the control units per engine type and per data line, so what you receive differs considerably per unit. The units below come from the CAT and Perkins coverage.
Control units you can access
- CDL (Caterpillar): Proprietary line, fault codes.
- PDL (Perkins): Proprietary Perkins line.
- J1939: Functions on Perkins only.
- SAE J1708: Older line, incl. CAT 3406.
- EMCP: Power generation, Caterpillar.
What you can do
- Fault codes: Read and clear, with descriptions.
- Measured values: View live, with alarm limits.
- Maintenance: On some Perkins engines, incl. 1206E.
- Report: Record maintenance work.
How to use it
- Check the connector: Look for the round connector with a red-brown insert.
- Connect: Plug the JDC505A on and tighten the bayonet.
- Linking the Link: Connect the OBD2 side to the Jaltest Link.
- Ignition on: Switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
- Reading out: Select Caterpillar or Perkins and the engine type.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The engine is decisive, not the machine. This cable fits any Caterpillar or Perkins engine with the 9-pin connector; these engines are fitted by dozens of machine manufacturers. Jaltest covers the series below; the red-brown insert shows whether your engine has this connector.
Caterpillar:
- 3000 series: 3054, 3054B, 3056, 3126, 3126B, 3176, 3176C, 3196, 3406, 3406E, 3408, 3408E, 3412, 3412E and 3456.
- 3500 and 3600 series: 3508, 3512, 3516 and the B, C and E variants, plus 3606, 3608, 3612 and 3616.
- C and G series: The C-series engines and the gas engines of the G-series.
Perkins:
- Compact: 402D, 403D, 403F, 403J, 404D, 404F, 404J, 854E, 854F, 904D and 904J.
- 1100 and 1200 series: 1103C/D, 1104A/C/D, 1106D, 1204E/F/J, 1206E/F/J and 1706J.
- Heavy duty: 1306, 1506, 1506D, 2006, 2206, 2306, 2506, 2806, 3008 and 3012.
