The Jaltest 50500010 is the clutch alignment set that you use to align the clutch disc before you tighten the pressure plate. The centring mandrel goes through the hub of the disc and into the pilot bearing in the flywheel, and keeps the disc centred while you tighten the bolts in a crosswise pattern.

The case contains two adjustable mandrels with a working range of Ø36-48 mm and Ø42-53 mm, plus four centring bushes in Ø20, Ø25, Ø27 and Ø30, and four O-rings. The mandrel engages the hub bore with its expanding segments; the bush sets the fit in the pilot bearing. The set weighs 3,300 grams.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Hub bores outside Ø36-53 mm fall outside the range of these two mandrels.
✕The bushes are fixed sizes. If your pilot bearing differs from these, no bush will fit.
✕Measure the inside diameter of the pilot bearing before you choose the bush. A bush that is too small leaves play and so still gives a misaligned disc.
✕No torque wrench is included; you tighten the pressure plate with your own tools.

Applications and features

If you tighten the pressure plate while the clutch disc is hanging at an angle, you will not be able to fit the gearbox afterwards, because the input shaft will not find the splines. The mandrel prevents this by securing the disc on the shaft through which the gearbox will later enter. This leaves both hands free for the bolts.

How to use it

  1. Measure: Measure the hub bore and pilot bearing with a vernier caliper.
  2. Choose the bush: Select the bush that fits the pilot bearing.
  3. Set the mandrel: Choose the mandrel and insert it into the hub.
  4. Centre: Insert the mandrel with bush into the pilot bearing.
  5. Tighten: Tighten the pressure plate in a crosswise pattern.

Compatible clutches and sizes

The deciding factors are the hub bore and the pilot bearing, not the brand. The mandrel must fit the hub of the clutch disc, and the bush must fit the inside diameter of the pilot bearing or the guide bush in the flywheel. Measure both dimensions with a vernier caliper before you order.

Working range of the mandrels:

  • Ø20: Smallest fit in the pilot bearing.
  • Ø25: Intermediate size.

  • Twin-plate clutch: Both discs and the intermediate plate in line.
💡
Good to know: First measure the inside diameter of the pilot bearing, and only then choose the bush. A bush that is too loose lets the disc sag, and you will only notice this when the gearbox will not fit on.
