The Jaltest JDCOBD5 redirects the signal from pin 1 to pin 15 within the 16-pin OBD2 connector. The unit features a sealed plastic housing measuring 11.5 cm — nearly three centimetres longer than the Hyundai and Tata-Daewoo versions — with a 16-pin OBD2 connector with pins on the front. The second product image shows how the 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic cable connects to the housing at the rear. The white label bears the inscription JDC OBD5.

Not all manufacturers adhere to the OBD2 pin configuration standard. Pin 15 is designated as the K-line location in the standard, whilst pin 1 is reserved for manufacturer-specific use. This adapter is designed for vehicles that place their diagnostic line on that spare pin: the signal is redirected to pin 15, allowing the Jaltest Link to locate it where it expects to find it. You can then read fault codes, view live data and perform actuator tests.

KEY BENEFITS

✔Redirects the signal from pin 1 to pin 15, the location specified by the OBD2 standard for the K-line.
✔Connects to the 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic cable of the Jaltest Link; no second cable is required.
✔ Specified for Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9, so compatible with both generations of interface.
✔ Brand-independent: Any vehicle with the diagnostic line on pin 1 is eligible, regardless of manufacturer.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕ Relocates pin 1 only: If your diagnostic line is on a different pin, this adapter will not help.
✕ Does not replace the OBD2 diagnostic cable: This adapter is inserted between the cable and connector and cannot function independently.
✕ The official product page lists no specific makes or models; connector pin configuration determines compatibility.
✕ At 11.5 cm the longest of the four adapters; a tight installation space may require careful positioning.

Applications and functionality

Using this converter, you can access the control units via Jaltest software behind a connector where the diagnostic line is on the wrong pin. The communication itself remains unchanged: only the signal position within the connector is shifted. What appears on screen depends on Jaltest coverage for that vehicle.

Control units you can access

  • The systems behind the non-standard wired connection:Once the signal reaches pin 15, the Jaltest Link can communicate with the control units connected to it.
  • Which units those are:This varies by vehicle and model year and is determined by Jaltest coverage, not by this article.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes:Current, permanent and intermittent codes with the original OE description.
  • View live measurement values:Sensor readings and parameters whilst the vehicle is running.
  • Perform actuator tests:Control components directly to verify their operation.
  • Maintenance and calibration:System-specific service and reset procedures, where Jaltest supports them for your vehicle.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The determining factor is the pin on which the diagnostic line sits, not the manufacturer. This version is not tied to a specific manufacturer; it works with any 16-pin connector where pin 1 is populated and pin 15 remains empty. You can verify this on the vehicle itself.

How to check:

  • Look at the connector:If pin 1 has a contact whilst pin 15 is empty, this version will work.
  • Recognisable scenario:The cable clicks into place and the ignition is on, but the Jaltest Link finds nothing.
  • Out of range:Connectors where the diagnostic line is routed to a different vacant pin.
  • Segment:Commercial vehicle, within the Jaltest CV module.
💡
Good to know:This adapter replaces the 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic cable not, but is positioned between them and extends the overall length by 11,5 cm longer. Check which pins are occupied on the vehicle itself before ordering.
