The Jaltest 29701 is the update licence for the Jaltest ETM, the Electronic Test Module. It lets you test electronic components outside the vehicle: An EBS modulator, a wheel speed sensor or a brake pad wear sensor sits on the workbench and the ETM communicates with it just as a control unit would. The software walks you through the test procedure and evaluates the result.

This saves you the diagnostic work you would otherwise do on the vehicle itself. Because you measure directly on the component and bypass the control units, connectors, wiring harness and control unit are eliminated as sources of error: what you measure comes from the component alone. This extends a licence already registered to your serial number by twelve months. If you don't renew, the ETM becomes locked – the hardware remains yours, but you cannot test with it any longer.

KEY BENEFITS

Testing without vehicle noise: Connectors, wiring harness and control unit are eliminated as sources of error.
Guided test procedures including an end-of-line test that confirms whether the component works as a complete unit.
Twelve months of new software versions, including newly supported components from that period; Jaltest releases three per year.
Works with Wabco and Knorr-Bremse, including trailer control modules.

POINTS TO NOTE

ETM hardware not included. This licence covers software only; you purchase the test module separately.
You need an active CV or Modular licence alongside it. The ETM cannot be purchased standalone.
The ETM does not work on Jaltest handhelds; you need a PC running Jaltest Diagnostics.
Please provide the serial number of your Jaltest Link in the notes field when placing your order; without that number we cannot activate the licence.

What is the Jaltest ETM?

When you test any component installed in a vehicle, you always measure through the rest of the vehicle. A poor connector, damaged wire or faulty control unit gives a reading that's slightly off – and then you replace the wrong part. The Electronic Test Module removes the component from that chain: it connects directly, supplies the voltage and signals the control unit would normally provide, and observes what comes back.

What you can test with it

  • EBS modulators: Electronic braking modules, fully tested instead of just read out.
  • Wheel speed sensors: Inductive sensors from ABS and EBS systems.
  • Brake pad wear sensors: Wear indicators from brake calipers.

Which makes it supports

  • Wabco: First, second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse: Second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse trailer control modules: Control units from trailer braking systems.

What you can do with it

  • Full component testing outside the vehicle: The component sits on the workbench; the ETM communicates with it just as a control unit would.
  • Bypassing the control units: Because you don't measure through the vehicle, connectors, wiring harness and control unit are eliminated as sources of error.
  • Guided test procedures: The software walks you through each step and tells you what to connect and when.
  • End-of-line test: The final test that confirms whether the component performs as it should.
  • Result assessment: The software tells you whether the measurement is within specification, so you don't need to interpret the data yourself.

What this licence extends

The ETM consists of two parts that work together: The hardware on the workbench and the software that runs the test procedures. This licence covers the second part.

  • What you extend: Twelve months' access to the test procedures, including any components Jaltest adds during that period.
  • What doesn't change: The ETM hardware remains yours; no action needed.
  • What happens if you don't renew: The module becomes locked. The hardware is still there, but you cannot run any tests with it.
  • When the licence expires: The expiry date aligns with your main Jaltest software licence expiry.
💡
Good to know: If you renew within fifteen days after the expiry date, the new period runs from that expiry date; afterwards it begins on the renewal date.

What you need

The ETM is a complement to your diagnostics and does not work standalone. The full setup is detailed below.

  • Jaltest Link: The diagnostic interface. Required, even to start the software on a PC.
  • An active CV or Modular licence: The ETM is not standalone and works only in combination with one of these.
  • The ETM hardware: The test module with interface cable and component-specific cables. Purchased separately; not included with this licence.
  • The licence itself (29701): This product. Twelve months' extension.
  • A PC running Jaltest Diagnostics: The ETM does not work on Jaltest handhelds.
  • Power from the vehicle: The ETM draws power from the batteries, even when the component is on the workbench.

What's included

  • 1x Jaltest (29701) | ETM | Update licence, twelve months' extension, delivered digitally to your Jaltest Link serial number
  • Access to test procedures: Linked to your Jaltest Link serial number
  • Hardware excluded: The ETM test module and cables are purchased separately
  • No physical shipment: Nothing is packaged or sent

How does it work in practice?

From order to licence renewal, there are just four steps. You won't need to reinstall anything, and your ETM hardware remains unchanged.

  1. Provide serial number: When placing your order, state the serial number of the Jaltest Link on which the existing licence is registered.
  2. We handle the renewal: We activate the renewal on that serial number, typically within one working day of your order.
  3. Email confirmation: We'll contact you once the new expiry date is set on your serial number.
  4. Update the software: Launch Jaltest Diagnostics and fetch the latest version; the ETM simply stays in the main menu.
