The Jaltest JDC505A is the adapter connecting the 9-pin diagnostic connector of Caterpillar and Perkins engines to the standard 16-pin OBD2 interface of the Jaltest Link. On the engine side sits the 9-pin connector, which belongs to the engine and is located in the engine bay; on the interface side, the cable runs to the 16-pin OBD2 of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. Caterpillar and Perkins use the same 9-pin connector, allowing one cable to serve both engine manufacturers.
This cable carries the engine's communication lines through to the Jaltest Link, enabling direct communication with the control units. This gives your diagnostic equipment access to the manufacturer-specific data lines — CDL for Caterpillar and PDL for Perkins — as well as the open J1939 bus, the legacy SAE J1708 line, and the EMCP generator control module. It's precisely these manufacturer-specific lines that deliver actionable diagnostics: on the J1939 control unit of Caterpillar engines, the coverage table shows no functions. The cable falls under Jaltest AGV (agricultural vehicles), Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway equipment) and Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality
Through this connection, you access Caterpillar and Perkins engine control units with Jaltest software. Jaltest identifies the control units by engine type and data line.
Control units you can access
- CDL, Engine Control Module (Caterpillar): The Caterpillar Data Link — the manufacturer's proprietary diagnostic line where the useful functions are located.
- PDL, Engine Control Module (Perkins): The Perkins Data Link, the equivalent for Perkins engines.
- J1939, Engine Control Module: The open bus standard. With Perkins, functions are included in the coverage; with Caterpillar engines, they are not.
- SAE J1708, Engine Management System: The older serial line, found on engines such as the Caterpillar 3406.
- EMCP, Electric power generation: The control unit for power generation in stationary Caterpillar engines.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the control unit's fault memory with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
- View measured values: Monitor current sensor readings from the control unit, with the ability to set alarm thresholds for out-of-range values.
- Maintenance: Check engine maintenance intervals and record associated service work in a report. Available only for some Perkins control units, such as the 1206E on J1939.
Which functions you actually get depends on the control unit: The coverage table varies by engine type and data line.

The engine is what matters, not the machine. This cable fits any Caterpillar or Perkins engine with the 9-pin diagnostic connector; these engines are installed in machines from dozens of manufacturers. Jaltest covers the series listed below; check on-site which connector is on your engine.
