The Topdon CarPal is a compact OBD2 Diagnostic Tool in the form of a dongle, which connects via Bluetooth 5.0 to a smartphone or tablet (Android 7.0+ and iOS 11.0+). This device is designed to perform a full system diagnosis, including reading and clearing fault codes and viewing live data. The license includes 1 year of free updates.
The CarPal offers additional features such as a battery test to check the condition of the battery. Additionally, the accompanying application provides access to a library of Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), a DLC location finder, and an overview of warning lights, which helps in identifying and resolving issues.
Diagnostic functions:
The CarPal supports diagnostic functions for all available vehicle systems.
- Battery test: Checks the voltage and status of the vehicle battery.
- Read and clear fault codes: Reads and clears fault codes (DTCs) from all present electronic control units, such as the engine, transmission, ABS, and airbags.
- Live data: Displays real-time data from sensors and components. The data can be shown in various formats, including as a graph or in a combined view (4-in-1).
Service and maintenance functions:
This device supports more than 5 service functions for basic maintenance. The available functions may vary by vehicle make and model.
Engine and drivetrain:
- Throttle learning: Resets the throttle drive to accurately regulate throttle values after cleaning or replacement.
Brakes:
- Electronic Parking Brake initialization (EPB): Resets the electronic parking brake after replacing brake pads or the motor.
Exhaust systems:
- Diesel Particulate Filter regeneration (DPF): Starts the regeneration process of the diesel particulate filter to remove blockages.
Tires:
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System initialization (TPMS): Relearns sensors after replacement or tire change.
Battery:
- Battery Management System reset (BMS): Registers a new battery in the system after replacement.
Other functions:
- Oil and service interval reset: Resets the service light and resets the maintenance interval after an oil change.
