The Jaltest Marine Outboard is a complete diagnostic system for the engine mounted on the transom: A case containing the Jaltest Link V9, the interface unit you connect to the diagnostic port of the engine, and the software that runs on your own laptop.

With this, you can access the control units of outboard motors, from the two-stroke fuel injection of Evinrude to the SmartCraft-systems of Mercury and the DF series of Suzuki. The module covers 15 brands. A new software version is released three times a year.

This set includes everything required to carry out diagnostics: The Link, the software activation and the software licence for the first year. . We activate the module as soon as you receive the device using the serial number of the supplied Link; you don't need to provide anything yourself. You'll need to arrange a laptop and the marine cables separately.

KEY BENEFITS

You start complete: The Jaltest Link V9, the software activation and the software licence for the first year are all three included.
The activation we handle: As soon as you receive the device we activate the Outboard module on the serial number of the supplied Jaltest Link, without any action required from you.
The 15 brands cover the entire outboard range, from Mercury, Yamaha and Suzuki to Tohatsu, Hidea and Parsun, including trim and tilt control and the throttle position sensor.
In the Marine Case (70001053) is the extended cable JDC100B from 250 cm instead of the JDC100 at 100 cm — space you can put to good use in an engine compartment on board.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The case contains only the 16-pin OBD cable; the manufacturer-specific connectors for Mercury, Honda and Suzuki require the outboard cable set (70002025), and those for Tohatsu, Hidea and Parsun require individual cables, and a laptop is not included.
The module covers outboard motors only. For inboard engines and generators you need Marine Inboard (74502003), for jet skis Marine Jetski (74502005), and all four together are in Marine Full (74502001).
The software requires every six months of registration; if you skip it, the system will lock.
INFO Plus and the Jaltest ETM do not work on a Marine licence: both require either a CV licence or a modular licence.

What's in the box

The case contains the hardware you use to establish the connection, plus the software rights that unlock the Outboard module. The hardware is identical to that in the standalone kit 70001053; the difference between the four marine diagnostic readers lies in the software module rather than the case. Below you will find details of each component, its function and its reference number.

Hardware

  • Jaltest Link V9 (70001015): The diagnostic interface you connect to the engine diagnostic port, with 26-pin DB26 connector to the cable and USB-C to the computer.
  • Multipin Kit Jaltest Marine (70002007): Twenty multipins JTP01 through JTP10, each available in two colours, the connection cable JTP101 and the power cable JDC10AM2 with battery clamps. Use these to connect directly into a connector for which no dedicated diagnostic cable exists.
  • OBD cable, 16-pin (JDC213.9): The standard cable for the ordinary diagnostic port.
  • USB-C cable (JDC107.9B): The connection between the Link and your laptop.
  • Extension cable, 250 cm (JDC100B): With a 26-pin DB26 plug, the wide connector on the Link itself. Two and a half times longer than the JDC100 in other Jaltest cases, because aboard a vessel the engine is rarely within easy reach of where the laptop is positioned.
  • Case (70003015): The compact design, 505 x 381 x 146 mm.

Software

  • Software (74502004): The one-time purchase that unlocks the Outboard module.
  • Licence activation, twelve months (74502014): The right to use it for the first year.
  • INFO Online Marine (29479): The technical documentation for the software. Included, not available separately and is free of charge from 2026 onwards.
  • Jaltest GRP: The workshop software from Cojali for customers, vessels and reports.

A laptop and the marine cables are not included here. See Cables and computer further down this page.

Which engines and systems

Jaltest Marine Outboard covers the motor on the transom, from the light four-stroke to the heavy blocks with direct injection and SmartCraft electronics. A brand in the list means there is coverage, not that every model and year of manufacture is fully supported. The organisation by continent refers to the country where the brand originates, not the current owner.

Outboard motors

Well-known brands under the outboard motors in the coverage from Jaltest Marine Outboard: Evinrude, Honda, Mercury, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Yamaha.

All 15 outboard engine brands, divided by continent:

European (1)
Selva
Asian (5)
Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Yamaha
American (6)
Evinrude, Johnson, Mariner, Mercury, Mercury Racing and Seven Marine
Chinese (2)
Hidea and Parsun
Other (1)
Vanguard Power, whose origin has not been established

European includes the United Kingdom, Turkey and Russia. Chinese is separate from Asian, which includes Japan, South Korea and India. The classification is based on the country of origin of the brand rather than the current owner, and engine manufacturers are assigned to their own country's region.

Onboard systems

  • Engine control: The control unit under the bonnet, including the Mercury PCM-555 and ECM-555, the SmartCraft G3 installation, the Honda ECM PGM-FI and the Suzuki DF-series engine control.
  • Fuel system: Fuel injection, injectors, fuel pump and fuel pressure.
  • Throttle valve: The throttle position sensor (TPS), which determines the throttle response.
  • Trim and tilt: The trim angle, the trim and tilt motor and the angle sensor that displays the position on screen.
  • Engine speed control: The idle speed, including for operation at trolling speed.
  • Control electronics: The remote control and the instrument panel at the helm station.
  • Onboard network: The NMEA 2000 network through which engine data is transmitted to the instruments.

The four Marine packages side by side

The four marine diagnostic readers share the same case 70001053 and the same Jaltest Link V9; the difference lies entirely in the software module. Below is shown per package what it covers, so you can see which suits your requirements.

Marine Full
Inboard engines, outboard motors, stationary engines and jet skis, with 38, 15, 27 and 5 brands
Marine Inboard
Inboard engines only, stern drives and generators, with 38 brands
Marine Outboard
Outboard engines only, covering 15 manufacturers. This is the package featured on this page
Marine Jetski
Jet skis only, covering 5 manufacturers

What you can do with it

With the Outboard module you can read control modulesretrieve live data parametersand command actuators. It also includes a reference library with wiring diagrams, troubleshooting guides and maintenance data for the system you're working on.

Diagnostics and service

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the control module fault memory, including active, inactive and stored codes with a description for each.
  • Data parameters: Engine speed, fuel pressure, trim angle and throttle valve position, displayed as figures or graphs.
  • Actuator control: Operate injectors, fuel pump and trim and tilt motors independently to assess their function.
  • ECU information: Part number, serial number, software version and total operating hours of the control module.
  • Maintenance and service: Disable cylinders individually, adjust idle speed for trolling, reset adaptive learning values and reset service hours to zero.
  • Calibrations and learning procedures: Calibrate the throttle position sensor and relearn trim and tilt sensors after engine removal from the transom.

Technical information included

  • Wiring diagrams: Electrical schematics of the engine system with clickable fuses, ground connections, sensors, control modules and wiring.
  • Technical specifications: Torque specifications, adjustment data, fluid specifications and information on sensors, actuators and control modules.
  • Repair guides by fault code: Step-by-step guidance for the identified fault code, including wiring inspection, component testing and recommended solutions.
  • Symptom-based troubleshooting guide: Diagnostic troubleshooting without fault codes, based on complaints such as difficult starting, power loss or overheating.
  • Technical bulletins: Cojali advisories on common faults and recurring issues by manufacturer.
  • Maintenance data: Service schedules based on running hours, including service procedures and replacement of filters, impellers, V-belts, thermostats and anodes.

The difference with expert mode

Standard diagnostics involves reading, measuring and commanding. In expert mode you can also adjust parameters in the control units: calibrating sensors and actuators, setting operating parameters and performing initialisation procedures. This mode is included.

Cables and computer

The kit includes the 16-pin OBD cable for the standard connector. On the water, there has never been a mandatory standardised OBD connection, so virtually every engine manufacturer uses its own diagnostic connector, even on new engines. The software itself runs on a Windows PC.

  • Outboard cable set (70002025): Eight cables — JDC601A, JDC603A, JDC608A, JDC609.9, JDC614A, JDC616A, JDC617A and JDC628A.
  • Mercury: JDC603A for the wide 4-pin connector, JDC614A for the 2-pin A9 connector and JDC617A for the 10-pin SmartCraft G3 electronics connector.
  • Honda, Evinrude and Yamaha: JDC608A for the 4-pin PGM-FI control connector, JDC609.9 for the 3-pin Evinrude connector with separate power lead to battery terminals, and JDC601A for the 3-pin Yamaha connector.
  • Suzuki, Tohatsu, Hidea and Parsun: JDC616A for the 4-pin connector is included in the set. Available to order are JDC613A for the 8-pin connection of the DF series, JDC624.9 for the 18-pin connector and JDC631A for the 6-pin connector under the engine cover.
  • Onboard network: JDC628A, which does not connect to the engine but rather to the main trunk of the NMEA 2000 network via a T-piece.
  • Computer: The software runs on Windows. Cojali supplies the Jaltest Rugged PC and the A140 Rugged PAD; both are available separately in our online shop.

Which cable you need is determined by the diagnostic port on the engine and not by the name on the engine cover. Check the connector on the engine itself before ordering: If it is the 16-pin OBD2 connector, then the supplied JDC213.9 is sufficient; if it is a proprietary connector, then the corresponding cable is listed above.

Licence and renewal

The software licence runs for twelve months from the activation and is renewed thereafter annually containing the update licence (74602004). As long as the licence is active, you receive all new software versions and maintain access to the technical information.

  • Duration: Twelve months from activation.
  • Renewal: Annually, with the update licence (74602004), each time for a further twelve months.
  • Installations: Maximum of five computers. Jaltest hardware is always required to run the software.
  • Registration: Upon activation, after each new software version, and thereafter every six months.
  • Add module: A module purchased later will be aligned with your active licence; you pay on a pro-rata basis.
  • Do not renew: Diagnostics will continue to work on the last installed version, but access to technical information will be lost. Cojali provides support for an expired licence for one further year.
💡
Good to know: If you renew within fifteen days after the expiry date, the new period runs on from that expiry date; thereafter it takes effect on the day of renewal. To renew, use the update licence (74602004); we activate it within one working day on the serial number of your Jaltest Link.

Optional add-ons

In addition to the Outboard module there are modules that you can purchase separately. They are not required to diagnose, but they expand the reference library, the support or coverage. Below is what comes with Marine.

  • Jaltest ATS (70809004): One year's access to Cojali's English-language technical support desk. Runs automatically; cancellation must be given in writing up to thirty days before the expiry date.
  • Jaltest Central Services: Work carried out by Cojali's specialists for you, charged per task.
  • The other Marine modules: Marine Inboard (74502003) and Marine Jetski (74502005) can be added separately, or you can purchase Marine Full (74502001) in one go, which covers all four areas.
