The Jaltest Marine Inboard is a complete diagnostic system for the inboard engine: A case containing the Jaltest Link V9, the interface unit you connect to the diagnostic connector of the engine, and the software that runs on your own laptop.
With it, you can access the control units of inboard engines, stern drives and the generators on board, from the diesel engines by Volvo Penta and Cummins to the petrol engines by MerCruiser. The module covers 38 manufacturers. A new software version is released three times a year.
This set contains everything you need to perform diagnostics: The Link, the software activation and the software licence for the first year. We activate the module as soon as you receive the device, based on the serial number of the supplied Link; you don't need to submit anything yourself. A laptop and the marine cables you'll need to arrange separately.
KEY BENEFITS
POINTS TO NOTE
What's in the box
The case contains the hardware which provides the connection, plus the software rights that unlock the Inboard module system. The hardware is identical to that in the standalone kit 70001053; the difference between the four marine diagnostic readers is included in the software module rather than the case. Below you'll find details of each component and its corresponding reference number.
Hardware
- Jaltest Link V9 (70001015): The diagnostic interface you connect to the engine diagnostic port, with 26-pin DB26 connector to the cable and USB-C to the computer.
- Multipin Kit Jaltest Marine (70002007): Twenty multipins JTP01 through JTP10, each available in two colours, the connection cable JTP101 and the power cable JDC10AM2 with battery clamps. Use these to connect directly into a connector for which no dedicated diagnostic cable exists.
- OBD cable, 16-pin (JDC213.9): The standard cable for the regular diagnostic connection.
- USB-C cable (JDC107.9B): The connection between the Link and your laptop.
- Extension cable, 250 cm (JDC100B): With a 26-pin DB26 plug, the wide connector on the Link itself. Two and a half times longer than the JDC100 in other Jaltest cases, because aboard a vessel the engine is rarely within easy reach of where the laptop is positioned.
- Carrying case (70003015): The compact version, 505 x 381 x 146 mm.
Software
- Software (74502003): The one-time purchase that unlocks the Inboard module.
- Licence activation, twelve months (74502015): The right to use it for the first year.
- INFO Online Marine (29479): The technical documentation for the software. Included, not available separately and is free of charge from 2026 onwards.
- Jaltest GRP: The workshop software from Cojali for customers, vessels and reports.
A laptop and the marine cables does not come with this. See Cables and computer further down this page.
Which engines and systems
Jaltest Marine Inboard covers the inboard engine, with the stern drive behind it and the generators that supply power on board. A manufacturer in the list means that coverage, not that every model and year of manufacture is fully supported. The division by continent refers to the country where the brand originates, not the current owner.
Inboard engines and generators
Well-known brands among the inboard engines in the coverage of Jaltest Marine Inboard: Caterpillar, Cummins, MAN, Mercury MerCruiser, MTU, Scania, Vetus, Volvo Penta and Yanmar.
All 38 inboard engine manufacturers, split by continent:
European includes the United Kingdom, Turkey and Russia. Chinese is separate from Asian, which includes Japan, South Korea and India. The classification is based on the country of origin of the brand rather than the current owner, and engine manufacturers are assigned to their own country's region.
Onboard systems
- Engine control:Engine control unit, including Volvo Penta EDC1 and EDC CP on diesel engines and ECM EGC and MEFI 1-2 and 3-4 on petrol engines.
- Fuel system:Fuel injection, injectors and fuel pressure, including priming after filter replacement.
- Exhaust aftertreatment:Particulate filter, with forced regeneration and reset of soot and ash values.
- Transmission and sterndrive:Electronically controlled gearboxes and clutches mounted on the engine.
- Control systems:Electronic control, including Volvo Penta IPS with joystick operation and EVC modules.
- Sensors:Boost pressure, oil pressure and coolant temperature.
- Generators and auxiliary sets:Generating units that supply power onboard.
The four Marine packages side by side
The four marine diagnostic readers share the same case 70001053 and the same Jaltest Link V9; the difference lies entirely in the software module. Below is shown per package what it covers, so you can see which suits your requirements.
What you can do with it
With the Inboard module you read out the control unitsretrieve live measured valuesand command components. It also includes a reference library with wiring diagrams, troubleshooting guides and maintenance data for the system you're working on.
Diagnostics and service
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the control module fault memory, including active, inactive and stored codes with a description for each.
- Measured values:Engine speed, boost pressure, oil pressure, fuel pressure and coolant temperature, displayed as figures or graphs.
- Control components:Injectors, fuel pump and valves — control them directly to assess their operation.
- ECU data: Part number, serial number, software version and total operating hours of the control module.
- Maintenance and service:Regenerate particulate filter, code injectors, disable cylinders, perform compression test, prime fuel system and reset service reminder.
- Calibrations and learning procedures:Adjust transmission and clutch, teach electronic control and joystick, and calibrate boost pressure, oil pressure and coolant temperature sensors.
Technical information included
- Wiring diagrams: Electrical schematics of the engine system with clickable fuses, ground connections, sensors, control modules and wiring.
- Technical specifications: Torque specifications, adjustment data, fluid specifications and information on sensors, actuators and control modules.
- Repair guides by fault code: Step-by-step guidance for the identified fault code, including wiring inspection, component testing and recommended solutions.
- Symptom-based troubleshooting guide: Diagnostic troubleshooting without fault codes, based on complaints such as difficult starting, power loss or overheating.
- Technical bulletins: Cojali advisories on common faults and recurring issues by manufacturer.
- Maintenance data: Service schedules based on running hours, including service procedures and replacement of filters, impellers, V-belts, thermostats and anodes.
The difference with expert mode
Standard diagnostics is reading, measuring and controlling components. In expert mode you also modify adjust parameters in the control units: The calibration of sensors and actuators, the setting of operating parameters and performing initialisation procedures. This mode is included.
Cables and computer
The kit contains the 16-pin OBD cable for the standard connector. On the water, there has never been a mandatory standardised OBD connection, so virtually every engine manufacturer uses its own diagnostic port, even on new engines. The software itself runs on a Windows PC.
- Inboard cable set (70002009):Eight cables — JDC527A, JDC603A, JDC604.9, JDC611A, JDC612A, JDC614A, JDC617A and JDC618A9.
- Volvo Penta:JDC527A for the 6-pin connector on diesel engines with EDC1 and EDC CP, JDC611A for the 6-pin EGCI connector on petrol engines and JDC618A9 for KAD, KAMD and TAMD engines.
- Mercury and MerCruiser:JDC603A for the wide 4-pin connector, JDC604.9 for the 10-pin MEFI connector, JDC614A for the 2-pin A9 connector and JDC617A for SmartCraft G3 electronics.
- Extension cable JDC100B:Some marine cables require the JDC100B on a Jaltest Link V9; it is included in this kit.
- Expanded package:The vessel cable set 70002008 contains the same eight cables plus JDC601A, JDC608A, JDC609.9, JDC613A and JDC616A.
- Computer: The software runs on Windows. Cojali supplies the Jaltest Rugged PC and the A140 Rugged PAD; both are listed separately in our online shop.
Which cable you need is determined by the diagnostic connector on the engine and not by the name on the engine cover. Check the connector on the engine itself before ordering: If it is the 16-pin OBD2 connector, then the included JDC213.9 is sufficient; if it is a manufacturer-specific connector, then the corresponding cable is listed above.
Licence and renewal
The software licence runs for twelve months from the activation and is then renewed annually containing the update licence (74602003). As long as your licence remains active, you'll receive all new software versions and retain access to the Technical information.
- Subscription period: Twelve months from activation.
- Renewal:Annually, with the update licence (74602003), each time for a further twelve months.
- Installations: Maximum of five PCs. Jaltest hardware is always required to run the software.
- Registration: Upon activation, after each new software version, and thereafter every six months.
- Additional modules: A module purchased later will be aligned with your current licence; you pay on a pro-rata basis.
- No renewal: Diagnostics will continue to work on the last installed version, but access to technical information expires. Cojali continues to support an expired licence for a further year.
Optional add-ons
In addition to the Inboard module there are add-ons available for separate purchase. They are not necessary to diagnose, but they expand the reference library, the support or coverage. Below is what comes with Marine.
- Jaltest ATS (70809004): One year's access to Cojali's English-language technical support desk. Runs automatically; cancellation must be given in writing up to thirty days before the expiry date.
- Jaltest Central Services: Work carried out by Cojali's specialists for you, charged per task.
- The other Marine modules:Marine Outboard (74502004) and Marine Jetski (74502005) can be added separately, or you can purchase Marine Full (74502001) in one go, which covers all four areas.
