The Autool BT460 is a battery and starting system tester. It performs the same four tests as the larger models – battery, starting, charging and load – but fits in a jacket pocket: 152 by 82 by 30 millimetres. No printer, no carrying case, just the device and the clamps.
This makes it ideal for work where you go to the vehicle rather than the other way around: on the farm, at a breakdown, at an auction. The 2.8-inch colour display shows the result with a judgment included, in fourteen languages, and the device records what it has measured. Power comes from the battery being tested.

Application and functionality
Most battery testers live on the workshop bench, which is exactly where the battery isn't. The BT460 performs the same four tests as the larger models, but is small enough to stay in the service vehicle. This means you can test batteries on vehicles where you'd otherwise have to estimate their condition.
The Autool BT460 supports the following test and diagnostic functions:
- Battery test: Charge state, condition, voltage, cold cranking current and internal resistance in a single measurement.
- Cranking test: Actual and minimum voltage during engine start, with 9.6 volts as the lower threshold.
- Charging test: Charging system voltage with minimum and maximum values.
- Load test: What the battery can still deliver under maximum load.
- Battery specification table: Help section shows which standard and value apply to each battery.
- History: Previous test results can be retrieved individually.
- Language selection: Menu available in fourteen languages.
What you see on the display
- Charge state and service life: Both shown as percentages with an assessment.
- Voltage: Battery voltage in volts.
- Cold cranking current: In amperes, according to your selected standard.
- Internal resistance: In milliohms.
- Minimum voltage during cranking: The lowest value recorded during the cranking test.
How to use it
- Connect the clamps: Red to positive, black to negative; the unit powers up automatically.
- Select the battery type: Flooded lead, AGM with flat plates, AGM with wound plates, GEL or EFB.
- Choose the standard and value: CCA, IEC, EN, DIN, JIS or GB.
- Run the test: The display shows the measurement values with a judgment.
- Review past results: Previous measurements are stored in the device's history.
Special features and capabilities
The menu contains two features that make the biggest practical difference, and the cable includes a detail that only matters when something goes wrong.
- Battery specification table built into the device: The Help section shows which standard and value apply to which battery, so you don't need to search if the label has become illegible.
- View test history: Previous test results are retained and can be recalled individually.
- Detachable test cable: The cable connects to the device via a screw connector. If it gets damaged, you simply replace the cable, not the tester.
