The Vgate iCar Pro 2S ELM327 interface connects directly to the vehicle’s engine management system via a standard 16-pin OBD2 port. This device communicates wirelessly with external devices such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop via a stable Bluetooth 5.3 connection. The dongle is specifically designed for accurately reading and clearing diagnostic fault codes (DTCs), monitoring sensor values in real time, and performing vehicle diagnostics through compatible third-party software.

Technically, the interface acts as a bridge between the vehicle’s internal data buses and the diagnostic software by converting raw vehicle data into the universal ELM327 command format. The module supports all mandatory OBD2 communication protocols, including CAN, ISO 9141, and KWP2000, enabling data transfer with minimal latency. During use, the built-in microcontroller processes requests from the diagnostic app, retrieves the required parameters from the electronic control unit (ECU), and sends them directly back to the user for data analysis, without disrupting the normal vehicle network.

  • Read and clear fault codes (DTCs): Identifying stored and active fault codes in the engine control unit (ECU) and the ability to reset the Check Engine Light (MIL) after repair.
  • Live data monitoring: Streaming real-time current sensor values, including coolant temperature, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, oxygen sensors, and the current fuel system circuit.
  • I/M Readiness status: Checking the emission test readiness status to verify whether all emission-related sensors have completed their internal self-test.
  • Freeze frame data retrieval: Reading a snapshot of the engine parameters at the exact moment a diagnostic trouble code was generated by the ECU.

  • Car Sleep & Wake up technology: The module automatically switches to a power-saving sleep mode (power consumption under 3mA) when the vehicle is turned off, and wakes immediately upon detecting voltage fluctuations when starting the engine.

  • RGB LED status ring: Provides the user with direct visual indications regarding power voltage, the establishment of the Bluetooth connection, and active data transfer between the car and the reading device.

Supported protocols

This ELM327 interface converts signals from all legally required OBD2 network protocols into a uniform serial data format. This guarantees compatibility with almost all OBD2-compliant cars (gasoline from 2001, diesel from 2004 in the EU).

  • ISO 15765-4 (CAN): The Controller Area Network protocol. This is the fastest and most used network in modern cars for communication between various electronic control units. Supports 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers.
  • ISO 14230-4 (KWP2000): The Keyword Protocol 2000, an asynchronous serial connection widely used by European and Asian manufacturers in the early 2000s.
  • ISO 9141-2: An older communication standard (similar to K-Line) mainly found in European and Asian cars produced between 2000 and 2004.

  • OBD Fusion (Android & iOS): Suitable for advanced emission diagnostics, logging GPS-linked vehicle data, and monitoring fuel efficiency.

Compatible operating systems

The dual-mode Bluetooth chip ensures platform-independent connectivity, adapting the connection protocol to the operating system used.

  • Android: Compatible with Android 5.0 and newer via the regular Bluetooth Classic connection for maximum stability and bandwidth.
  • iOS (Apple): Compatible with iOS 9.0 and newer. Uses exclusively Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), so manual system pairing is not required.
  • Windows: Supported via Bluetooth connection in combination with Windows 10 and Windows 11, provided suitable PC diagnostic software is installed.
💡
Good to know: Do not pair the device in the Bluetooth settings of the operating system when using an iPhone or iPad. For BLE devices, pairing always occurs directly within the menu of the chosen diagnostic app.
