Application and functionality

Brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point; manufacturers therefore specify a replacement interval. With the classic method, fluid is pushed through the system using the brake pedal, which requires a second person and delivers pressure in bursts. Pressure bleeding replaces this with controlled, pulsed delivery from the reservoir.

The Autool AST605 supports the following functions:

• Pressure bleeding: Delivers fresh brake fluid under pressure, so brake pedal operation is not required.
• Pulsed delivery: The pump works in bursts rather than with constant pressure; this prevents air from being drawn in.
• Adjustable working pressure: From 0.7 to 3.0 bar, read on the pressure gauge; factory setting 1.6 to 2.0 bar.
• Pressure monitoring: Stops the pump as soon as the bottle empties or air is drawn in.
• Old fluid collection: In a separate collection bottle of one litre.
• Adapter connection: Three reservoir adapters, number 1 for most European brands, number 6 for Toyota and number 16 for Tesla.

How to use it

1. Fill the bottle with fresh brake fluid: The type specified by the manufacturer for this vehicle.
2. Select the adapter and fit it to the reservoir: Number 1, 6 or 16, depending on the make.
3. Connect the fill hose: Using the quick coupling; the 3.5 metre hose reaches around the vehicle.
4. Set the pressure and start the pump: Check the value on the pressure gauge.
5. Bleed each wheel: Open the bleed nipple until clean fluid flows, then close and move to the next.

Special features and capabilities

Around the bleeding process itself are provisions that prevent air or dirt from entering the brake system.

• Quick coupling on the fill hose: Metal fitting on a 3.5 metre hose, so you disconnect without fluid leaking out.
• Automatic stop when air is drawn in: The pressure monitoring stops the pump before air enters the line.
• Factory setting at 1.6 to 2.0 bar: The value with which most systems are filled, so as a rule you don't need to adjust anything.

Where to use it

The unit is used where brake fluid must be refreshed according to schedule or after work on the system, and where no second person is available for the pedal.

• Periodic replacement: Brake fluid ages through moisture absorption, not through kilometres.
• After brake system work: When air may have entered the lines.
• Workshop with various brands: The three adapters cover the vast majority of common reservoir caps.
• Working one wheel at a time: A single clamp connection, with no second hose in the way.
