The OBDSTAR TCM-008 is an adapter cable featuring an 8-pin connector on the vehicle side for the transmission control module of the Getrag MPS6, and a 15-pin DB15-connector on the device side. The 8-pin connector connects directly to the TCM port of the MPS6 gearbox, typically located on the transmission itself, and therefore does not connect to the OBD2 port of the vehicle.

The Getrag MPS6 is a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) marketed as Powershift and fitted to vehicles from multiple manufacturers. The TCM of this transmission features its own 8-pin connector because the unit is accessed at the pin programming level: through this connection, an OBDSTAR programmer can read, write and reprogram data outside the OBD network. This provides access to operations that are not available through the standard diagnostic port. The cable establishes only the physical connection between the MPS6 TCM and the DB15 port of your device. The read, write and replacement functions you can actually perform are determined by the software of your own OBDSTAR equipment. The cable is specific to this transmission type and will not fit other TCM connectors.

✕Not all engine variants have the MPS6 — within the models mentioned, other transmissions were also supplied; verify the transmission type of the specific vehicle.
✕Single connector type — the cable is made for the 8-pin connector of the Getrag MPS6 and will not fit other transmission types or TCM plugs.

Applications and functionality

The TCM-008 connects the transmission control unit of the Getrag MPS6 to the DB15 port on your OBDSTAR device.

Control units you can access

  • Getrag MPS6 TCM: The transmission control unit of the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, via the 8-pin connector on the unit.
  • Transmission side only: The cable connects to the TCM and not to engine management or other control modules in the vehicle.

What you can do

  • Read TCM data: Extract the current programming data from the MPS6 unit, including calibration values and configuration parameters.
  • Write TCM data: Write new or modified software data back, for example after unit replacement or when adjusting transmission settings.
  • Support replacement procedure: Programme a replacement TCM so it operates correctly within the vehicle environment.
  • Establish direct pin connection: The connection runs via the physical 8-pin TCM connector, bypassing the vehicle's OBD2 port.
  • Important note: Which of these operations are actually possible depends on the software and licence of your OBDSTAR device; the cable only determines the connection path.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The presence of the Getrag MPS6 gearbox is the determining factor, not the model. The specifications listed below were supplied with this dual-clutch gearbox. Within the same model range, other transmissions were also used, so always verify the engine variant and gearbox type.

Chrysler:

  • Sebring: 2.0 CRD diesel (European market, 2008–2010)

Dodge:

  • Journey: 2.0 CRD diesel (European market, 2008–2011)

Ford:

Important to know: The TCM of the Getrag MPS6 is typically located on the gearbox itself. The 8-pin connector is connected directly to the unit after removing the associated housing or connector from the vehicle. You should therefore expect to carry out removal work before you can connect. Verify that the vehicle is indeed equipped with the MPS6 gearbox and that you can access the TCM connector before ordering.
