The Jaltest JDC531A is the diagnostic cable for the 9-pin RS232 connector on Scania engines; the cable routes that serial connection to the 16-pin OBD2 port of Jaltest diagnostic equipment. The connector is part of the engine itself and is located in the engine bay, not on the machine or vessel in which the engine is installed. Scania also uses a 4-pin CAN connector; for that version, the JDC532A is the appropriate cable.
Once the connection is established, Jaltest software accesses the engine control system of the Scania engine: The control units DEC2 (V7.0) and EDC MS5 on engines with in-line injection pumps, the unit injector control EDC MS6.2 and the engine management system EMS PDE with pump-line nozzle units. Coverage on these engines includes fault codes, live data and ECU information: maintenance intervals and component actuation are not included. Scania is listed in Jaltest under both off-highway equipment and marine engines; the cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway Equipment) and Jaltest Marine.

Through this connection, you access the engine management of the Scania engine using Jaltest software. Which control unit you reach depends on the diagnostic connector on the engine.

- DEC2 (V7.0), Diesel in-line injection pump: Control of engines with in-line injection pump, including serial number, software version and manufacturer reference.
- EDC MS5, Diesel in-line injection pump: The successor control unit for the same pump type.
- EDC MS6.2, Engine Management System, Unit Injector: The unit injector control system.
- EMS PDE, Engine Management System, Unit Injector: Scania engine management with pump-jet units.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
- View live data: Monitor current sensor values connected to the control unit.
- Set alarm thresholds: Define limits for sensor readings outside normal range, so deviations are immediately visible.

The connector type determines compatibility, not the engine model. This cable fits any Scania engine with the 9-pin RS232 diagnostic connector. Jaltest covers the engine series listed below; check which connector is on your engine on-site.
