The Jaltest JDC402A is the diagnostic cable that connects the proprietary 2+2-pin connector of Volkswagen commercial vehicles to the Jaltest Link: Two separate connectors that together form the diagnostic lines and are located in the cab, at the dashboard or center console. On the interface side is the 16-pin OBD2 connector for your Jaltest diagnostic cable.

Once the connection is established, the Jaltest software accesses the individual control units of the commercial vehicle: The diesel control EDC, the hydraulic ABS, the airbag system Airbag 3 (SRS), the automatic transmission TU, the Immobiliser with the comfort system CS, the instrument cluster, the auxiliary heater, and the four-wheel drive of syncro versions. Which of these are present depends on the engine type and equipment: On the earliest versions with mechanically controlled diesel engines, the EDC control unit is absent. The cable falls under Jaltest CV (commercial vehicles).

KEY FEATURES

✔Combines the two separate VAG connectors into one 16-pin OBD2 port.
✔Accesses the EDC, Electronic Diesel Control of diesel versions and the automatic transmission TU, Automatic transmission.
✔Also ABS, Anti-lock hydraulic braking system, Airbag 3 (SRS), the Immobiliser and the comfort system CS are covered.
✔It also reaches the instrument cluster INS 1.0, the auxiliary heater CU 1.0 and the all-wheel drive AWD of the syncro versions.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕On the earliest versions with mechanically controlled diesel engines, there is little to read out: Without an EDC control unit, only the loose electronics remain.
✕Volkswagen switched to the 16-pin connector from model year 1996 onwards; that's where the limit lies, well before the EOBD requirement (2001 petrol / 2004 diesel).
✕Only for the 2+2-pin connector; later Volkswagen commercial vehicles and other brands use their own connector.
✕Requires a Jaltest Link with valid CV license; the cable does not add coverage on its own.

Applications and functionality

Through this connection, you access the control units of the commercial vehicle using Jaltest software. The units listed below are from the Volkswagen coverage of the T4 generation; which ones are present depends on the engine type and equipment.

Control units you can access

  • EDC, Electronic Diesel Control: The electronic diesel control system.
  • ABS, Anti-lock hydraulic braking system: The anti-lock braking system.
  • Airbag 3, Supplemental Restraint System: The airbag and seat belt tensioning system.
  • TU, Automatic transmission: The automatic gearbox.
  • Immobiliser and CS, Comfort system: Engine immobilizer and comfort system, with the door modules LDM and RDM.
  • INS 1.0, Instrument cluster and CU 1.0, Auxiliary heater: Instrument panel and auxiliary heater.
  • AWD, Four-wheel Drive: Four-wheel drive on Syncro models.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the control unit's fault memory with detailed descriptions of detected faults.
  • View live data: Monitor real-time sensor values connected to the control unit in both numeric and graphical formats.
  • Activate components: Directly trigger components to determine whether the fault lies with the part itself or in the wiring.
  • Configure settings: Write configurations and parameters to the control unit.
  • Perform calibrations: For systems where Jaltest offers calibration procedures, such as after component replacement.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. The 2+2-pin connection is Volkswagen's proprietary diagnostic connector used through model year 1996, so it's found on early commercial vehicles. Check which connector is installed in your cab on-site.

Volkswagen:

  • Transporter T4: (1990 - 1996)
  • LT (1st generation): (1990 - 1996)
  • Caddy II: (1995 - 1996)
💡
Good to know: The two separate connectors are located in the cab, near the dashboard or center console. From model year 1996 onwards, Volkswagen switched to the 16-pin connector. Check which connector your vehicle has before ordering.
