The Topdon TopScan Master update licence extends your entitlement to software updates for the TopScan Master for one year. What the TopScan Master can do is determined by the software, not the hardware. The device is a wireless dongle that works with your smartphone, supporting more than ninety vehicle manufacturers. The device supports CAN FD and DoIP, includes separate authorisation for the secure control units of FCA, Renault and Nissan, and comes with the knowledge database TopFix AI. A renewal gives you a year's access to all new versions released during that period.
The renewal is digital. You'll receive a card with a code in your email inbox and enter it on the TopScan Master itself, in the update menu. When ordering, provide the serial number of the device, as this field is mandatory. A renewal keeps the vehicle coverage and service procedures current, and also maintains access to premium features — reading and clearing data continues to work even without a licence.

Applications and functionality
Three elements of the TopScan Master depend on the licence. The vehicle coverage determines which vehicles the device recognises, the function files determine what it can do with them, and the online services provide external data and features.
What a renewal provides
- New vehicle coverage: Brands, models and model years added after your last update become available within existing diagnostic functions.
- Extended service functions: Procedures such as maintenance interval reset, cylinder balance testing, variable turbo learning, NOx sensor reset and air suspension calibration continue to support newer vehicles as manufacturers update their systems.
- Corrections and improvements: Bug fixes, faster routines and corrected procedures in the software itself are delivered through the same updates.
What happens without renewal
- New software: The update menu no longer delivers new versions; the TopScan Master remains on the version currently installed.
- Paid features expire: Actuator control, service procedures, access to secure gateways and the knowledge database depend on an active licence.
- What remains free: OBD2 engine diagnostics, reading and clearing fault codes on all systems, and live data continue to work without a licence.

How does it work in practice?
It takes four steps. Allow for some download time if you haven't updated for a year.
- Provide your details: We need the serial number of the TopScan Master; include it when ordering.
- Delivery: The renewal card is delivered digitally, usually within one working day.
- Enter the code: The code goes into the update menu of the TopScan Master; the renewal is activated there.
- Update software: Select the new versions in the update menu and let the device download them over wifi.
