The Topdon EV Package is a comprehensive set of diagnostic cables and software, specifically designed as an extension for existing Topdon diagnostic devices. This accessory kit enables technicians to perform in-depth vehicle diagnostics on electric vehicles (EV). The set includes a wide selection of 18 brand-specific EV connectors, including 15 non-standard connections, and a complete jumper kit for direct connections to battery management systems (BMS). Additionally, the kit features special EV diagnostic software with a 2 year license, covering more than 74 electric vehicle brands and systems, including specific hardware and software for Tesla.

In practice, the kit functions by creating a physical and software bridge between the electric vehicle and a compatible diagnostic device, such as the Topdon Phoenix Smart or Phoenix Max. By selecting the correct adapter cable or jumper cables, the technician can communicate with critical high-voltage systems and read the battery pack at the cell level. The included software unlocks the necessary protocols to read faults, perform actuator tests, and analyze live data from charging modules and drive motors, among others. This enables the diagnostic technician to safely and accurately locate complex faults in the high-voltage circuit without relying solely on the standard OBD2 port.

ADVANTAGES

Offers extensive physical connection options through 18 specific EV connectors and jumpers.
Adds specific software coverage for diagnosing more than 74 EV brands.
Enables in-depth BMS diagnostics and communication with high-voltage components.

KEY POINTS

The set depends on hardware compatibility and works only in combination with specific Topdon devices.
The EV-specific software license requires subscription fees after the included two-year period for further updates.

Applications and functionalities

The Topdon EV Package significantly expands the workshop's diagnostic capabilities for work on electric drivetrains. The set facilitates the following technical functionalities:

  • BMS reading: Direct communication with the Battery Management System to analyze cell voltages, temperature differences, and the State of Health (SOH) of the battery pack.
  • Physical system connection: Use of the 15 non-standard connectors and the jumper kit to make diagnostic connections outside the standard OBD2 port. This is essential because EV modules often need to be addressed locally.
  • Decrypt brand-specific EV protocols: Reading and clearing fault codes and monitoring live data from specific high-voltage modules, inverters, and onboard chargers (OBC) of more than 74 car brands.

Special features and capabilities

In addition to regular diagnostics, this accessory kit offers possibilities for specialized EV tasks:

  • Tesla compatibility: The set includes specific adapters and the necessary software protocols for reading and diagnosing various Tesla models.
  • Direct pin-out connections: The extensive jumper kit allows the technician to manually make communication connections (such as CAN bus) with modules and components on the workbench or without a standard diagnostic connector.

Package Contents

  • 1x Topdon EV Package software activation card (2 year license)
  • 15x Non-standard EV adapter cables (including Tesla, BYD, Roewe)
  • 1x Complete jumper kit for pin-out connections
  • 1x Ethernet diagnostic cable
  • 1x Set of power adapters
  • 1x Storage case or box
💡
Good to know: This EV kit is not a standalone diagnostic device. It functions solely as an expansion package and requires a compatible platform such as the Topdon Phoenix Smart or Phoenix Max to use the software and cabling.
