\nThe Jaltest JT2008 is a tachometer in hand, with which you determine how fast a as, a tachometer pulley or a fantruly circulates. It is a standalone measuring instrument: no cable, no vehicle connection and no software required. It weighs298 gram and measure 125 x 80 x 245 mm.\n
\nOn the nose sits a black wheel nut cover that covers the measurement side. The display has two lines: at the top a value with the unit Revolutions per minute, below which a second line of five digits, and top left two symbols, one of which is a light beam emitted displays. Three buttons each have two labels, ON/OFF with HOLD, R/C with MENU and M/M/A with TUNE, and below it is the CE mark.\n
KEY FEATURES
IMPORTANT POINTS
Applications and Features
Atachometer counts how many times a rotating component per minute rotates and converts it into a figure on the display. That figure is an independent measurement: It does not come from an engine control unit and not from a sensor that could be faulty itself. That is precisely why it is reliable when you doubt what the vehicle itself indicates.
What you can measure with it
- Idle speed: Determine whether the engine is actually running at the prescribed idle speed.
- Belt drive: The speed of the fan, alternator or compressor, so you can see whether the transmission ratio is correct and the belt is not slipping.
- Power take-off and pump: Whether the drive achieves the speed at which the implement or pump is rated.
- Auxiliary units: An aggregate or cooling unit that should run at a fixed speed.
- Comparing input and output: Place the speed before and after a transmission side by side to identify slip or an incorrect ratio.
What you will find on the instrument
- Display: Two lines; at the top a value with the unit RPM, below it a line of five digits.
- Measurement symbol: In the top left of the screen is a symbol for an emitted light beam, indicating that measurement is taken from a distance.
- Measurement side: The nose of the instrument is covered with a black serrated cap.
- Buttons: ON/OFF with HOLD, R/C with MENU and M/M/A with TUNE.
- Certification mark: The CE mark is located below the buttons on the front.
How to use it
What matters is the rotating component, not the vehicle. This tachometer requires no diagnostic connection and no engine control unit, making it equally suitable for use on a farm machine or a generator that never a OBD connection has had. Below is where it is used in the workshopthe most commonly used.
Commercial vehicle and bus:
- Motor:Check the idle speed against the manufacturer's specification.
- Secondary drive:Compressor, alternator and fan — where an incorrect pulley only becomes apparent in the engine speed reading.
Agricultural, terrain and construction machinery:
- Tachometer:Determine whether the power take-off shaft reaches the engine speed for which the implement is designed.
- Hydraulic pump:A pump running too slowly delivers insufficient output without anything being broken.
Workshop and stationary engines:
- Aggregates:A generator set that should operate at a fixed engine speed.
- Older engines:Machines without control unit, where engine speed cannot be read from any other source.
