The Autool SPT105 Spark Plug Tester is a stationary diagnostic device designed for detailed inspection of loose spark plugs outside the vehicle. Within the ignition system, this instrument offers the ability to assess the performance of a spark plug by electronically simulating engine operation. The device specifically focuses on the visual and functional inspection of the ignition spark, which is essential when diagnosing misfires, weak spark formation, or incomplete combustion in 12V gasoline engines.
During the diagnostic procedure, the component is placed in the device, allowing it to be tested completely independently from the vehicle's own coil and wiring. This enables the technician to directly observe the spark strength and the stability of the discharge through the transparent shield. Although such a bench test device does not have a traditional adjustable spark gap like an inline spark bridge, the system is equipped with a height-adjustable socket to correctly position the spark plug. The integrated pulse generator delivers a controllable test voltage, accurately simulating the load on the electrode at different engine speeds in practice.

- Comparative spark diagnosis: The device features a Dual-Hole design. This allows a suspect, used spark plug to be tested simultaneously alongside a new reference spark plug to directly observe visual differences in spark intensity.
- RPM simulation: The rotary switch on the control panel continuously adjusts the ignition pulse frequency. This allows the technician to simulate engine speeds from 0 to 6000 RPM to identify misfires, breakdowns, or ignition faults under higher engine loads.

This stationary tester is equipped with mechanical adjustments to be versatile and safe during high voltage tests.
- Adjustable test height: The left test port features a screw mechanism with an 8-millimeter adjustment range. This ensures proper clamping and grounding for spark plugs with unusual or extended threads, as often used in modern VAG and BMW engines.
- Integrated safety shield: A hinged, transparent plastic cover is mounted above the test ports. It must be closed during activation and prevents exposure to high voltage while keeping the spark discharge clearly visible for inspection.
