The Autool SDT206 is a professional Smoke Tester designed for detecting leaks in closed vehicle systems. The smoke generation operates based on controlled heating (low oxygen combustion), with a built-in pump providing an independent compressed air supply without the need for an external compressor. The device delivers a constant working pressure of up to 18 psi and an air displacement of up to 6 liters per minute. The power supply is drawn directly from the 12V vehicle battery using the supplied battery clamps. This form of leak detection is specially developed for low-pressure circuits, such as intake, exhaust, crankcase, and EVAP systems of various motor vehicles.
During the diagnostic procedure, the machine facilitates smoke injection as it is equipped with separate control buttons for an air-only test and a smoke test. The pressure regulation and the actual flow can be precisely monitored via the built-in analog pressure gauge and the flowmeter with rotary knob, allowing the technician to exactly adjust the supply to the system capacity to be tested. For leak visualization, the system fills the sealed lines with very dense smoke; as soon as this smoke escapes, it directly marks the location of a crack or poor connection. The practical operation is further facilitated by a transparent sight glass for the smoke fluid and an integrated drain point to safely remove excess or contaminated test oil after the diagnostic process.
ADVANTAGES
KEY POINTS
Applications and functionalities
The Autool SDT206 is designed with specific features to make the testing process efficient and controlled within professional diagnostic environments.
- Air Mode: Activates only the internal compressor to fill the sealed system with clean compressed air. This allows a pressure drop (leak) to be detected first using the pressure gauge, without unnecessarily consuming smoke fluid or contaminating the system.
- Smoke Mode: Activates the internal heating element. The liquid is converted into dense smoke which, driven by the pump, flows into the test pipes within 30 seconds for visual detection of cracks and leaks.
- Flow Control: The amount of air or smoke pumped into the system is continuously adjustable via a mechanical rotary knob. The flowmeter (glass tube with indicator) displays the flow volume in liters per minute in real time.
Special features and capabilities
To prevent damage to both the device and the vehicle, this Smoke Tester features various safety and monitoring mechanisms.
- Integrated pressure monitoring: The large analog pressure gauge on the front panel allows the test circuit to be pressurized. If the gauge drops when pumping stops, this indicates a pressure loss. This enables blind detection of micro-leaks.
- Thermal protection: The device is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor. Once the heating element reaches the operating limit due to intensive use, the alarm indicator (red LED) lights up and the power supply to the element is paused to prevent dry boiling or overheating.
- Transparent fluid management: At the front is a liquid level meter (Liquidometer) showing the current content (min/max level). Via a special valve at the bottom, unused or aged test oil can be easily drained after a test drive.
Compatible vehicles and systems
Thanks to the wide operating pressure and included adapters, the smoke machine is applicable in many diverse low-pressure diagnostics.
- System type: EVAP systems (fuel vapor extraction), crankcase ventilation (PCV), intake manifolds, exhaust systems, turbo circuits, cooling systems, and interior seals (doors/windows).
- Vehicle category: Passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats with a 12V system.
- Diagnostic application: Detecting torn vacuum lines, worn gaskets, leaking EGR valves, broken intercoolers, and missing seals.
