The set contains specific components such as camshaft locking tool, a crankshaft locking pin, and a chain tensioner. These parts ensure precise alignment of the engine components, which is necessary for the correct functioning of the VANOS system and to prevent engine damage. The tools are supplied in a plastic storage case.
Application and functionality:
This set is used for performing maintenance on the timing of BMW N63 and S63 engines.
- Locking the camshafts: Fixes the camshafts in the correct position relative to each other and the crankshaft.
- Locking the crankshaft: Locks the crankshaft at TDC of the first cylinder via the flywheel.
- Pre-tensioning the timing chain: Enables the primary timing chain to be correctly tensioned after installation.
- Adjusting VANOS timing: The tools are compatible with the VANOS adjusters for correct adjustment of the variable valve timing.
