The OBDSTAR Key Master 5 update licence extends your entitlement to software updates for the Key Master 5 with one year. The Key Master 5 operates on key programming work passenger vehicles, motorcycles and some electric brands, and can also perform standard OBD II diagnostics. These three lists shift with each update.

Key programming is more susceptible to obsolescence than standard diagnostics, because manufacturers adjust their immobiliser systems per model year. A renewal therefore includes the procedures for programming, erasing, PIN code reading and key reuse. We link the licence to the serial number of your device. After expiry, the Key Master 5 continues to work on the most recently installed version.

Important notes

✕The licence is tied to one serial number and does not transfer to a second Key Master 5.
✕A renewal does not change the focus of coverage; check for your own brands whether the model is on the list, as the total number of brands tells you little in itself.
✕An extension provides software only, not hardware, so without the P001 module, EEPROM, RFID and Key Renew work remains out of reach.
✕Are all keys lost, then the Key SIM key simulator remains separately required, even with an active licence.

Applications and functionality

An active licence keeps three components of the Key Master 5 running. These are the immobiliser procedures, the module work on the P001 and the OBD II diagnostics. Below is what a renewal provides and what stops working without it.

What a renewal provides

  • New immobiliser procedures: Programming keys and remotes, erasing keys, reading PIN codes and reading key numbers follow new model years.
  • Updated module work: EEPROM read and write, RFID operations and key reuse via the P001 module evolve with updates.
  • Extended diagnostics: Reading fault codes, adjusting control modules and resetting values follow the same updates.

What happens without renewal

  • New software: Updating via WiFi no longer delivers new versions and the brand lists remain as they were.
  • Online services: OBDSTAR online services may be unavailable or limited.
  • Existing key work: Programming, erasing and PIN code reading continue to work on the vehicles already in your version.

Useful to know: The serial number is shown on the sticker on the rear of the Key Master 5 and in the settings menu. Before you renew, check whether the work you perform relies on the P001 module , because without that module, some functions remain inaccessible, however current the software is.

How does it work in practice?

From order to updated device takes four steps. The serial number is the only thing you need to locate yourself.

  1. Provide serial number: Provide the serial number of your Key Master 5 in the order notes field.
  2. Activation: We link the licence to that serial number, typically within one working day.
