The OBDSTAR DC706 update licence extends your entitlement to software updates for the DC706 with one year. The DC706 is a ECU programmer that runs on its module database, with over 2,050 ECM types, 510 TCM types and 180 body control and other modules. That list grows precisely with each update.

With a programmer, coverage works differently than with a diagnostic device, because what matters is not the vehicle make but the control module inside it. New ECU types, new MCUs and the associated wiring diagrams and help files arrive via the updates. When the licence expires, the DC706 continues to clone and write to everything already in the database, but it will not recognise a module from after your last update.

✕Even with an active licence, the DC706 remains a programmer; full system diagnostics with live data and actuator tests are not included.
✕Updates are delivered via Wi-Fi, not through the diagnostic cable; without network access in your workshop, you cannot obtain new versions.

An active licence keeps three components of the DC706 running. These are the module database, the operations that are possible on it and the documentation on the device. Below is what an extension provides and what stops working without it.

What a renewal provides

  • New control modules: ECM, TCM, body control and motorcycle modules added after your last update become available.
  • Updated operations: Cloning, EEPROM, dflash, pflash and map operations, factory reset, odometer correction and immobiliser PIN code reading follow the new modules.
  • Enhanced documentation: Wiring diagrams, help files and automatic module recognition grow with the database.

What happens without renewal

  • New software: The update menu delivers no new versions; the module database remains where it was.
  • Online services: OBDSTAR online services may be unavailable or limited.
  • Existing work: Cloning, reading and writing to modules already in the database continues to work normally.

Useful to know: The serial number is located on the sticker on the rear of the DC706 and in the settings menu in the device information. Incidentally, also read out and save the original content of a control module before you write, as a write operation cannot simply be reversed.

How does it work in practice?

From order to updated device takes four steps. The serial number is the only thing you need to locate yourself.
