The TopDiag BT400 is a multifunction battery tester for 12V and 24V systems that combines four functions: the battery test with starting and charging test, battery replacement with memory retention, leakage current measurement and a voltage test on the OBD2 pins. It operates within a voltage range of 8 to 30 V and measures up to 2000 CCA.
With leakage current measurement from 15 mA to 5 A, you record consumption for up to 30 minutes as a waveform. This shows when a consumer switches on while you pull fuses. When replacing the battery, you maintain the on-board voltage via the OBD2 connector and a second battery, so settings and codes are retained.

POINTS TO NOTE
Applications and functionality
The BT400 combines four functions for work on the electrical system of 12V and 24V vehicles.
Battery, starting and charging test
- Battery test: Assesses the condition and cold cranking capacity of the battery.
- Starting test: The voltage while the starter motor is cranking.
- Charging test: The charging voltage of the alternator.
Leakage current measurement
- Measuring range: 15 mA to 5 A.
- Recording: Current and progression recorded as a waveform for up to 30 minutes.
Battery replacement with memory retention
- Via OBD2: An auxiliary battery powers the on-board system via the OBD2 connector while the battery is removed.
OBD2 voltage test
- Voltage per pin: Check the voltage on the pins of the OBD2 connector before reading out.
How to use it
- Select function: Choose battery test, leakage current, memory retention or OBD2 test.
- Connecting: For the battery test, clamp to the battery; for memory retention, the auxiliary battery and the OBD2 plug.
- Measuring: Follow the steps on the screen; for leakage current, pull fuses while following the waveform.
- Reading the result: Read the measured values and the assessment on the screen.
Special functions and features
The BT400 replaces several separate measuring tools in the workshop.
- Leakage current waveform: You see when consumption changes, not just how much it is.
- Memory retention: Radio codes, seat positions and clock settings are retained when changing the battery.
- OBD2 pin voltage: Check the power supply to the diagnostic connector.
- Wide working range: 8 to 30 V, for 12V and 24V systems.
- Multilingual display: Operation via an LCD screen in multiple languages.
