The Autool BT30 is a memory saver that maintains the on-board voltage while you replace the battery. It powers the vehicle through the OBD port, so radio codes, seat positions, window settings and learned values are retained. This means you do not have to reset or relearn everything after the change.
The BT30 has no built-in battery. You connect it with the clamps to a second, fully charged 12V battery. On the display you read the voltage of the backup battery and the current the vehicle draws. This also makes it usable for tracing a parasitic drain. A 3 A fuse, reverse polarity protection and overvoltage protection protect the electronics.
ADVANTAGES
POINTS TO NOTE
Applications and features
The BT30 is intended for workshops and private users who replace batteries in 12V vehicles where disconnecting the battery costs settings or codes.
Retaining memory
- Replacing the battery: Holds the on-board voltage via the OBD port.
- Keeping settings: Radio code, seats, windows, clock and learned values are retained.
- Display check: Voltage of the backup battery and current to the vehicle.
Finding parasitic drain
- Reading current: The display shows what the vehicle draws at rest.
- Fuse by fuse: Pull fuses one at a time and check where the current drops out.
- Allowing for sleep mode: Each vehicle goes to sleep at a different time; give it time.
How to use it
- Connecting the backup battery: Red to positive, black to negative of a full 12V battery, and check that the voltage appears on the display.
- Plugging in the OBD connector: Check that the display shows current.
- All off: Ignition off and consumers such as lighting, seat heating and air conditioning off.
- Replacing the battery: Keep the loose battery cables of the vehicle insulated.
- Disconnecting: Connect the new battery and then remove the BT30.
Special functions and capabilities
How the BT30 differs from a simple memory saver cable:
- Digital display: Voltage and current visible at the same time.
- On/off switch: On the housing between the cables.
- Overvoltage protection: Switches off above 16 V.
- Insulated clamps: With copper teeth and a reinforced spring.
