The Launch X-PROG 3 PC Adaptor is an ECU and TCU programmer that allows technicians and diagnostic specialists to clone, read and edit control units directly from a PC. The device acts as an interface between the PC and the control unit being edited, and provides a 2D menu structure with a search function to quickly select the correct ECU or TCU type. The adapter supports a wide range of ECUs from manufacturers including Bosch, Continental, Siemens and Delco, and TCUs from ZF, Getrag, Temic and Bosch, including the EDC16/EDC17, MED17, MEVD17, 6HP/8HP, 7DCT300 and 9G Tronic.

Communication between the device and PC is via a stable USB connection at an input voltage of 12 to 23 V. From the PC software, ECU and TCU data can be copied and modified, with the adapter providing support for engine data validation and starter interrupt disable. The adapter functions as a coupling module with the X-PROG3 hardware and is controlled via the accompanying PC software, enabling component-level edits to ECUs and transmission controllers.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕ Works only in combination with X-PROG3 hardware; the adapter cannot function independently.
✕ Not all ECUs on the support list are covered: SIMOS12.X and SIMOS-PCR2.X are listed as not support.
✕ Reading and writing at component level require additional soldering and disassembly skills that are not provided with this product.

Applications and functionality

The Launch X-PROG 3 PC Adaptor supports the following ECU and TCU operations:

  • ECU cloning: Copies the complete contents of a source ECU to a target ECU, useful when replacing a faulty control unit.
  • TCU cloning: Copies transmission controllers such as 6HP, 8HP, 7DCT300 and 9G Tronic to a replacement unit.
  • ECU data reading: Reads the current data blocks from the control unit for backup or analysis before editing.
  • ECU data editing: Modifies read ECU data via the PC software before writing it back.
  • Engine data validation: Checks the integrity of engine data before writing to prevent write errors on the ECU.
  • Starter interrupt disable: Disables engine start interlock so that a replaced or cloned ECU can start without synchronisation with the original system.
  • ECU search function: Quickly searches the support list by type, make or number to start the correct procedure.
