The Jaltest JDC502A connects the manufacturer-specific 6-pin diagnostic connector on Steyr engines to the 16-pin OBD2 port where the Jaltest Link diagnostic cable fits. On the engine side, there is a round metal bayonet connector with knurled ring, featuring a red ring around the black contact carrier, six round pins and a screw-on cable clamp behind it. The other end is a black plastic housing with two rows of eight contacts and a white label printed with JDC502A. Jaltest supplies the cable as Diagnostic cable for Steyr engines, 6 pin, with a length of 29–31 cm.
The JDC501A is the sister cable for the 3-pin Steyr connector, and the difference extends beyond pin count: the round connector of this 6-pin version is noticeably larger in diameter and features a red ring, whereas the JDC501A has a blue ring around a smaller contact carrier. The 16-pin OBD2 side, the length and the Link version V8.1 and V9 are identical on both. This cable gives you access to the two control units from the Steyr Engines coverage group, EDC CAN and UIS 1.0; the cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality
Via this connection you access the engine control unit of the Steyr engine with 6-pin connector using Jaltest software. Jaltest groups these control units under the coverage category Steyr Engines with EDC CAN and UIS 1.0. What comes across the line remains within data reading: fault codes, measured values and ECU information.
Control units you can access
- EDC CAN: CAN-configured Steyr engine control unit with fault codes, measured values and ECU data.
- UIS 1.0: The control unit for pump-injector configurations, offering the same functionality.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
- View measured values: Monitor current sensor readings from the control unit, with the ability to set alarm thresholds for out-of-range values.
- Not included: Actuator control, parameter setting, calibration and maintenance reset are not listed for Steyr control units.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The engine type determines compatibility, not the machine it is installed in. Steyr engines are mounted as standalone power units, so Jaltest provides coverage at the engine level itself. The same engine therefore appears in both stationary engines and marine engines; check on site whether your engine block has a 6-pin or 3-pin connector.
