The Jaltest MDC05 is the test cable connecting the 4-pin EBS connector of a Knorr-Bremse EBS module (excluding MAN) to the 16-pin OBD2 port on the Jaltest ETM. You connect it directly to the module, not to the vehicle's diagnostic connector. On the module side, there is a 4-pin connector of the Deutsch type with a grey housing, a green contact carrier, an orange-brown sealing ring and a locking bracket that holds the plug in place.

With this connection, the Jaltest ETM, the test module for brake and sensor components, establishes communication with the modulator itself, as if it were the control unit. This allows you to determine whether the component is genuinely faulty or whether the fault lies in the wiring or control unit. In addition to this cable, you will need the ETM itself, with an ETM licence and an active CV or Modular software licence.

KEY BENEFITS

Designed for Knorr-Bremse EBS modules (excluding MAN), so you don't need to improvise with loose test pins.
You test the component independently of the control unit: The ETM establishes communication itself.
Prevents unnecessary dismantling: If the modulator is functioning correctly, there is no need to remove it.
Enables advanced diagnostics of an EBS modulator and an End of Line test.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Works exclusively with the Jaltest ETM; this cable is not intended for vehicle diagnostics via Jaltest Link.
Requires an ETM licence in addition to an active CV or Modular software licence; other modules cannot be combined with the ETM.
The ETM does not operate on Jaltest handhelds; you control it from a PC or laptop.
The MDC04 is the same cable with a grey connector housing and coding A; for EBS modules in MAN the MDC02 and MDC03 apply. The coding varies by version, so an incorrectly selected cable will not fit physically onto the module.

Applications and functionality

Via this cable, the Jaltest ETM communicates directly with the component, without involving the vehicle's control unit directly. Below you'll find which components the ETM can access this way and what you can diagnose with it in your workshop.

What the Jaltest ETM covers

  • Wabco EBS modulators: First, second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse EBS modulators: Second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse trailer modulators: The control modules for trailer braking systems.
  • Inductive wheel speed sensors: The speed sensors from ABS and EBS systems.
  • Brake pad wear sensors: The sensors that monitor brake pad thickness.

What you can do

  • Test the component in isolation: The ETM takes over the role of the control unit and communicates directly with the component.
  • Determine whether the component has actually failed: If the component works, the fault lies elsewhere in the system.
  • Perform a complete EBS modulator diagnosis: Advanced testing of the modulator.
  • Carry out an End of Line test (EOL): The check that confirms the component is functioning correctly.

What you'll need

  • Jaltest ETM: The test module itself. For the Jaltest Link V9, that's the ETM interface with reference 70001007; the complete ETM kit is 70001008.
  • ETM licence: Without this licence, the ETM won't start. Annual renewal has reference 29701.
  • An active Jaltest software licence: A CV licence or a Modular licence. Other modules cannot be combined with the ETM.
  • Power supply: The ETM is powered from the vehicle's batteries.
💡
Good to know: The hardware, software and usage rights of the ETM are aligned with the expiry date of your Jaltest software licence. If that licence runs for more than a year longer, you pay only for the remaining period. Once the Jaltest licence expires, the ETM will not function until it is renewed. Check when your Jaltest licence expires before placing your order.
