The Jaltest MDC11 is the brake pad wear sensor diagnostic cable: it allows you to connect a brake pad wear sensor directly to the Jaltest ETM, rather than to the vehicle's diagnostic port. It is not a standard cable, but an adapter with a black plastic housing marked with the Jaltest MDC11 designation. On one side, a 16-pin OBD2 connector extends directly from the housing; on the other side is a short lead terminating in a round 3-pin BWS connector, with the three contacts arranged in a triangle. On the MDC11, this lead enters the round connector at right angles, at a ninety-degree angle.

Using this connection, the Jaltest ETM approaches the sensor independently of the control unit and establishes communication itself. This allows you to determine whether the sensor is genuinely faulty, or whether the problem lies in the wiring or control unit. Confirmation is provided by an End of Line test. In addition to this cable, you will need the ETM itself, complete with an ETM licence and an active CV or Modular software licence.

KEY BENEFITS

Connect directly to the brake pad wear sensor, eliminating the need to improvise with loose test leads.
The ETM assumes the role of the control unit, allowing you to assess the sensor independently of the rest of the system.
Prevents unnecessary replacement: if the sensor is functioning correctly, the fault lies elsewhere.
Enables an End of Line test to confirm the sensor is working properly.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Works exclusively with the Jaltest ETM; this cable is not intended for vehicle diagnostics via Jaltest Link.
Requires an ETM licence in addition to an active CV or Modular software licence; other modules cannot be combined with the ETM.
The ETM does not operate on Jaltest handhelds; you control it from a PC or laptop.
In addition to the MDC11, there is the MDC10: it is the same adapter with identical connectors, except the cable enters the round connector straight rather than at an angle. This is the only difference, so check how the cable enters your sensor connection and choose accordingly. For speed sensors, the MDC12 is the correct version.

Applications and functionality

Via this cable, the Jaltest ETM communicates directly with the sensor, without involvement of the vehicle's control unit. Below is a list of which components the ETM can reach in this way and what you can do with them in the workshop with determines.

What the Jaltest ETM covers

  • Wabco EBS modulators: First, second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse EBS modulators: Second and third generation.
  • Knorr-Bremse trailer control modulators: The trailer brake control modules.
  • Inductive wheel speed sensors: The speed sensors from ABS and EBS systems.
  • Brake pad wear sensors: The sensors that monitor brake pad thickness.

What you can do

  • Test the component in isolation: The ETM takes over the role of the control unit and communicates directly with the component.
  • Determine whether the component is actually faulty: If the component works, the fault lies elsewhere in the system.
  • Perform an End of Line test (EOL): The check that confirms the component is functioning correctly.

What you need

  • Jaltest ETM: The test module itself. For the Jaltest Link V9, that is the ETM interface with reference 70001007; the complete ETM kit is 70001008.
  • ETM licence: Without this licence, the ETM will not start. The annual renewal has reference 29701.
  • An active Jaltest software licence: A CV licence or a Modular licence. Other modules cannot be combined with the ETM.
  • Power supply: The ETM is powered from the vehicle batteries.
💡
Good to know: The ETM hardware, software and user rights run in line with the expiry date of your Jaltest software licence. If that licence runs for more than a year longer, you only pay for the remaining period. Once the Jaltest licence expires, the ETM will not work until it is renewed. Check first how long your Jaltest licence runs before you order.
