The Jaltest JDC612A is officially described as a diagnostic cable for Yanmar, 3-pin and connects the 3-pin connector of Yanmar inboard engines to the standard 16-pin OBD2-interface. The connector is located in the engine bay, on or beside the engine. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm and is compatible with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9.
On the interface side, there is a black 16-pin OBD2 connector with the OBD symbol on the housing. On the engine side, there is a light grey connector with a rounded triangular profile, containing three pins arranged around a green wedge. It is a straight cable with no branch connections, shorter and simpler in design than the 6-pin JDC538A for industrial engines, which features a rectangular grey connector with an orange wedge. The cable falls under the Jaltest Marine range.

Applications and functionality
Through this connection you access with the Jaltest software the Yanmar engine control units and those of the operator panel. Which units are available depends on the engine series installed.
Control units you can access
- EDC Yanmar Bosch — engine controller: The Bosch engine controller, with the most comprehensive function list of the four: Fault codes, measured values, component control, ECU data, parameters and live data.
- EDC Yanmar Generic — engine controller: Fault codes, measured values, ECU data and live data.
- Engine control module (ECM): The control unit for the BY series and others, featuring fault codes, measured values, ECU data and live data.
- VC10 and VC20 — control panel: The electronic module of the panel, with ECU data, parameters, calibration and reset, but no fault codes.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: Access the fault memory of the engine control unit, with descriptions of detected faults.
- View measured values and monitor live data: Real-time sensor readings from the engine control module, monitored whilst the engine is running.
- Control components: With the EDC Yanmar Bosch system, you can operate actuators directly.
- Parameters, calibration and reset: Parameters for the Bosch engine control unit and panels; calibration and reset are limited to the VC10 and VC20 panels.
Compatible vessels and applications
The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. This cable fits any Yanmar inboard engine with the triangular 3-pin connector. The following series are covered by Jaltest Marine; if you see a rectangular grey connector with an orange wedge on the engine block, it is an industrial engine and requires the JDC538A.

- BY series: 4BY-150 to 6BY3-260Z, including BY2 and BY3 variants

- SY and AYEM series: 6SY-STP2, 6SY655, 8SY-STP and the 6AYEM-GT, 6AYEM-ET and 6AYEM-ST
- Control panels: The VC10 and VC20 panels supplied with these engines
