The Jaltest JDC603A connects the 4-pin diagnostic connector of Mercury marine engines to the 16-pin OBD2 port on your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the engine side, there is a wide, flat black connector with a rounded housing and a locking tab on the top; the cable exits straight out. This connector is located in the engine compartment, on or next to the engine. Mercury uses the same connector on outboard motors and on MerCruiser inboard engines. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm.
Behind this connector lie the engine control units that Jaltest supports for Mercury: PCM-555 and ECM-555, the ECM-70 G3 and the ECM DFI from Optimax engines. Additionally, the control electronics come within reach: The DTS G3 for digital throttle and shift control and the TVM G3 for steering control. The difference lies in the scope of functions: On the PCM and ECM-555 you get the full feature set including parameters, calibration and reset, whereas Jaltest on the DTS G3 does not read fault codes. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and functionality
Through this connection you can access with Jaltest software the engine control of the Mercury engine and the control electronics on board. The range of functions varies by control unit: the PCM and ECM-555 offer the most comprehensive list, whilst the DTS G3 offers the most limited. The following units are covered under Mercury coverage in Jaltest Marine.
Control units you can access
- PCM-555 and PCM-555 G3, engine control: The control unit for Verado and Optimax engines among others, with fault codes, measured values, component actuation, parameters, calibration, reset and live data.
- ECM-555, ECM-555 G3 and ECM-70 G3, engine control: The control units for Fourstroke engines, with the same comprehensive function list.
- ECM DFI, engine control: The direct fuel injection control for Optimax engines, with fault codes, measured values, component actuation and live data.
- DTS G3, electronic throttle and shift control: The control unit for electronic throttle and shift control, with measured values, calibration and live data.
- TVM G3, steering control: The control unit for steering control, with fault codes and live data.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: Access the fault memory of the engine control unit, with descriptions of detected faults, and clear it after repair.
- View measured values and monitor live: Track actual sensor readings in real time whilst the engine is running.
- Actuate components: Directly control actuators in the engine management system to determine whether a fault lies with the component itself.
- Parameters, calibration and reset: On the PCM and ECM-555 control units; calibration is also available on the DTS G3.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The connector type is what matters, not the model. This cable fits any Mercury engine with the 4-pin connection, whether outboard or inboard. Jaltest Marine covers the following series under Mercury coverage; you can identify the correct cable by the wide flat connector with the locking clip and not the engine serial number.
Mercury:
- Fourstroke range: Outboard engines from 15 to 300 hp, including Jet Fourstroke variants
- Verado range: Outboard engines from 135 to 600 hp
- Optimax range: Outboard engines from 75 to 250 hp
- Pro XS, Pro Max and SeaPro: Outboard engines from 15 to 500 hp
- MerCruiser inboard: Including the 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.2, 7.4, 8.1 and 8.2 MPI and MAG variants, the 496 MAG, Scorpion and Vazer engines
