The Jaltest JDC538A is officially designated as a diagnostic cable for Yanmar and connects the 6-pin connector of Yanmar industrial engines to the standard 16-pin OBD2 interface. The connector is integral to the engine and is located on or adjacent to the engine block, rather than at a fixed position within the machine. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm and is compatible with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9.
On the interface side, there is a black 16-pin OBD2 socket bearing the OBD symbol on the housing. On the engine side, there is a rectangular light grey connector with an orange wedge in the aperture, housed within a black overmoulded body; the cable runs between these in a single straight strand, with no branching or module. The 3-pin JDC612A for inboard engines features a triangular grey sleeve with green wedge in this position. The cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality
Through this connection, you access the Yanmar engine control units using Jaltest software. Which unit you encounter depends on the engine series and emissions stage.
Control units you can access
- EDC Yanmar Bosch — engine control: The Bosch engine control unit. Here you'll find the complete function list including maintenance and additional actions.
- EMS Yanmar Denso — engine control: The Denso engine control unit, with the same function list.
- EMS Yanmar Denso (Stage V) — engine control: The Stage V version; additional actions are not available.
- DCU — exhaust aftertreatment: The aftertreatment system control unit, with fault codes, measured values, ECU data and maintenance.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: Access the fault memory of the engine control unit and exhaust aftertreatment system, with fault descriptions.
- View measured values: The current sensor readings from the control unit, with the option to set alarm thresholds.
- Consult maintenance: The maintenance intervals and associated tasks, with a customer report.
- Perform additional actions: Available with EDC Yanmar Bosch and EMS Yanmar Denso, not with the Stage V version or DCU.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The engine series is what matters, not the machine. Yanmar engines are installed as standalone drive units in compact machinery, power units and implements; Jaltest provides coverage based on the engine series itself. You can identify which connector is on your engine block by its shape: rectangular with an orange wedge matches this cable, triangular with a green wedge matches the JDC612A.
