The Jaltest JDC528A connects the 8-pin diagnostic connector on stationary Volvo Penta engines to the 16-pin OBD2 port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the engine side is a grey rectangular connector with eight contact sockets in two rows of four, a blue-green contact carrier, an orange sealing ring and a black locking bracket. The connector is located on or next to the engine. The black cable of 28 to 30 cm ends in an OBD2 shell marked JDC 528A, so you can find it in the case.
Via the cable, the Jaltest software reaches the engine control units EMS V3, EMS V4 and EDC, and the ACM V3 and ACM V4 exhaust aftertreatment units. For the engine control units, the coverage includes reading out as well as component control, parameters, calibration and reset; for the ACM units, calibration is not included. The cable works with the Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality
The cable is intended for workshops that read out stationary Volvo Penta engines. The cable only passes through the communication lines; the main difference between the control units lies in the calibration.

How to use it
- Check the connector: Locate the grey 8-pin connector on the engine.
- Connecting: Click the JDC528A into place with the bracket.
- Link connection: Connect the OBD2 end to the Jaltest Link.
- Ignition on: Switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
- Reading out: Select Volvo Penta and the engine series.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The connector determines compatibility, not the engine type. This cable fits the stationary Volvo Penta engines with the 8-pin diagnostic connector in the grey rectangular connector. Jaltest covers the series listed below; check on site which connector is fitted to your engine.
Volvo Penta:
- TAD series: TAD4XY VE, TAD5XY GE and VE, TAD6XY VE, TAD7XY GE and VE, TAD8XY GE and VE, TAD9XY GE and VE.
- TAD series (heavy-duty): TAD11XY VE, TAD12XY GE and VE, TAD13XY GE and VE, TAD16XY GE and VE.
- TD series: TD4XY VE, TD5XY GE and VE, TD7XY GE and VE.
- TWD series: TWD12XY VE, TWD16XY GE and VE.
The four Volvo Penta cables side by side
Volvo Penta uses a different diagnostic connector per engine generation and per application, and each version has its own cable. The JDC527A and the JDC611A both have six pins but differ in shape and contacts. Only the JDC618A9 requires a Jaltest Link V9; the other three also work with V8.1.
- JDC527A: Grey rectangular connector, blue-green contact carrier with six contact sockets and an orange sealing ring. Volvo Penta 6-pin connector: EDC1 and EDC CP.
- JDC528A (this cable): The same grey connector but wider, with eight contact sockets in two rows of four. Volvo Penta 8-pin connector on stationary engines: EMS V3, EMS V4, EDC, ACM V3 and ACM V4.
- JDC611A: Black oval connector, purple contact carrier with six pins in one row. Volvo Penta EGCI 6-pin and OBD-M: ECM EGC, MEFI and the EVC modules.
- JDC618A9: White rectangular connector with two round contact sockets, red and black wire. Volvo Penta KAD/KAMD/TAMD, 2-pin connector.
