The Jaltest JDC402A connects the 2+2-pin diagnostic connector of Volkswagen commercial vehicles to the 16-pin OBD2 port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. The vehicle-side interface comprises two separate two-pin connectors: a white housing marked with the letters L and K above the opening, carrying both diagnostic lines, and a black housing with minus and plus symbols, providing ground and power supply. Each of the two connectors features two flat contact pins side by side. The branches converge into a single OBD2 housing labelled JDC402A; the cable measures 28.5 to 29.5 cm.
Once connected, the Jaltest software accesses the individual control units of the commercial vehicle: the diesel control unit EDC, the hydraulic ABS system, the airbag system Airbag 3, the automatic transmission TU, the starter interrupt with comfort system CS, the instrument cluster, the auxiliary heater and the four-wheel drive on syncro variants. Earlier models with mechanically controlled diesel engines lack the EDC unit. The cable is compatible with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under the Jaltest CV module.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and functionality
Using this connection, you can access the control units of the commercial vehicle with Jaltest software. Which units are present depends on engine type and specification: A Syncro with automatic transmission contains more electronics than an early T4 with mechanical diesel pump. The control units listed below are covered by Jaltest's Volkswagen coverage.
Control units you can access
- EDC, Electronic Diesel Control: Electronic diesel engine management.
- ABS, hydraulic anti-lock braking system: Commercial vehicle brake control.
- Airbag 3, airbag and seatbelt tensioner system: Occupant safety systems.
- TU, automatic transmission: Automatic gearbox shift control.
- Start interrupt and CS, comfort system: Including door modules LDM and RDM.
- INS 1.0, instrument cluster and CU 1.0, auxiliary heater: The instrument panel and independent heating system.
- AWD, four-wheel drive: The drive system of the Syncro variants.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with detailed descriptions of detected faults.
- View live data: Display current sensor values connected to the control unit in numerical and graphical format.
- Activate components: Directly trigger components to determine whether the fault lies with the part itself or in the wiring.
- Configure parameters: Write configurations and settings to the control unit.
- Perform calibrations: For systems where Jaltest offers a calibration procedure, such as after component replacement.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. The 2+2-pin connection is the proprietary diagnostic connector that Volkswagen used until model year 1996, therefore on early versions of commercial vehicles. You can identify it by the two separate two-pin connectors, one white and one black, which hang loose side by side in the cab. From model year 1996 onwards, there is a single 16-pin connection.
Volkswagen:
- Transporter T4: (1990 - 1996)
- LT (1st generation): (1990 - 1996)
- Caddy II: (1995 - 1996)
