The Jaltest JDC308A does not terminate in a connector block on the vehicle side but in a mini-USB. Which end goes where is clearly shown in the photograph. On one side is the 16-pin OBD2 connector marked JDC308A, into which the Jaltest Link diagnostic cable plugs; on the other side is a 5-pin mini-USB Type B connector with a metal housing, and this connects to the diagnostic port on the ZF EcoLife gearbox. The cable between them is 28 to 30 cm long.

With this connection, the Jaltest software reads the control unit of the EcoLife automatic transmission. The EcoLife is the successor to the Ecomat: ZF launched it in 2008 as a six-speed gearbox for urban and regional buses, in the model range 6AP1000B to 6AP2000B, and has supplied it since 2019 as the EcoLife 2. The mini-USB is located on the gearbox itself and not on the vehicle's OBD port, so this cable reaches the transmission even when it does not communicate via vehicle diagnostics. The cable works with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under the Jaltest CV module.

KEY BENEFITS

✔The mini-USB connector connects directly to the diagnostic port on the EcoLife gearbox, even when it does not communicate via vehicle diagnostics.
✔On the other side is a standard 16-pin OBD2 connector, so the standard diagnostic cable from the Link connects directly without an adapter.
✔What matters is the transmission, not the chassis manufacturer, so the cable follows the gearbox across any bus brand.
✔Compatible with both the Jaltest Link V8.1 and the Link V9.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕Only for the mini-USB version of the EcoLife; the version with the yellow 9-pin MCP connector belongs to JDC309A.
✕The older Ecomat generation does not fit here: That uses the off-white 9-pin Mate N-Lock (JDC307A) or the 3+6-pin connector (JDC303A).
✕The mini-USB is not a PC connection here: It sits on the gearbox and carries the transmission diagnostic line, not a data connection to a computer.
✕At 28 to 30 cm the cable is short, so you work at the gearbox rather than from the driver's seat.

Applications and functions

Via the mini-USB on the gearbox, you connect with the Jaltest software to the control unit of the EcoLife transmission. This concerns that one control unit; the other bus systems connect via their own connection. What you see depends on the specification of the gearbox.

Control units you can access

  • EcoLife automatic transmission: The transmission control unit for which this cable is designed, accessed via the mini-USB on the gearbox itself.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Read out the fault memory of the EcoLife control unit and clear it after repair.
  • View live data: Monitor current sensor and system values of the gearbox in real time.
  • Activate components: Trigger actuators to verify their operation.
  • Parameters, calibrations and service resets: As far as Jaltest offers them for the specification in your vehicle.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The transmission type is what matters, not the model. This cable is for the ZF EcoLife automatic transmission with the mini-USB diagnostic connection on the gearbox. ZF launched that gearbox in 2008 as the successor to the Ecomat and has supplied it since 2019 as the EcoLife 2. Which connection is on your gearbox you can see on the gearbox itself: A mini-USB or the yellow 9-pin connector of the MCP version.

Application:

  • Urban and regional buses and coaches: With a ZF EcoLife automatic transmission.
  • All chassis manufacturers: The cable follows the gearbox, not the bus builder.
  • Mini-USB version: The version with the yellow 9-pin MCP connector belongs to JDC309A.
💡
Good to know: The mini-USB is on the vehicle side here, not the PC side. It connects to the diagnostic port on the EcoLife gearbox, whilst the 16-pin OBD2 on the other end accepts the diagnostic cable from the Link. Check the gearbox itself to confirm it has a mini-USB port before ordering.
