The Jaltest JDC301A connects the 9-pin ECS diagnostic connector of Volvo bus chassis to the 16-pin OBD2 port of the Jaltest Link. On the vehicle side there is a white, rectangular connector with nine positions in three rows of three, in a black overmould; five positions are in use, and the remaining four are sealed with yellow blanking plugs.

Via this cable, the Jaltest software accesses the ECS suspension control and the second suspension variant ELF, the electronically controlled air suspension. Because the connection point is located on the chassis, the bodybuilder is not decisive. The cable works with the Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and is covered by Jaltest CV.

ADVANTAGES

POINTS TO NOTE

✕The JDC302A, which looks almost identical, is intended for the ABS connection point on the same chassis, with four instead of five positions in use.
✕The other units in the Volvo bus coverage (EDC Euro 3 / Euro 4-5, VECU, TECU, EBS 5, ABS and IC) have their own connection point on these chassis and cannot be reached with this cable.
✕From Euro IV (October 2005) onwards, buses were fitted with the standardised 16-pin OBD connector; you do not need this cable for that.
✕Four of the nine positions are closed off with yellow blanking plugs; this cable does not carry through those contacts.

Applications and functionality

The cable is intended for workshops that read the air suspension of older Volvo bus chassis with the Jaltest Link. The units listed below come from the Volvo bus coverage of Jaltest CV.

  5. Read out: Select Volvo Bus and the series in Jaltest.

The connector is decisive, not the model. This cable fits any Volvo bus chassis with the 9-pin ECS connection. Jaltest CV covers the series listed below; check on the chassis which connection is fitted to your vehicle.

Good to know: The 9-pin connection is located on the bus chassis, near the suspension electronics. You can recognise it by the white connector with nine positions, of which five are in use. The almost identical ABS connection for the JDC302A has four in use.
