The Jaltest JDC301A is the adapter between the 9-pin ECS diagnostic connector on Volvo bus chassis and the standard 16-pin OBD2-interface of the Jaltest Link. On the vehicle side, there is a white rectangular connector with nine positions arranged in three rows of three, housed in black overmoulding; five positions are fitted with pin contacts, the remaining four are sealed with yellow blanking plugs. On the other end is a black 16-pin OBD2-connector with the reference JDC301A moulded into the housing, connected by a short black cable. Difference from the sister cable: This cable connects to the suspension control ECS, whilst the visually similar JDC302A connects to the ABS brake electronics.

This cable routes the communication lines through to the Jaltest Link, enabling direct communication with the suspension electronics of the bus chassis. This gives the diagnostic equipment access to ECS, the electronic suspension control and the alternative suspension variant ELF, the electronically controlled air suspension. Because the connection point is on the chassis, the bodywork manufacturer that built the bus is not a determining factor. From Euro IV (October 2005) onwards, buses were fitted with the standardised 16-pin OBD connector; if your bus is Euro IV or newer, you will not need this adapter. The cable falls under Jaltest CV (commercial vehicles).

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕This is the ECS connection: For the ABS connection point on the same chassis, the visually very similar JDC302A is intended, with four instead of five occupied positions.
✕The other units from the Volvo bus coverage (EDC Euro 3 / Euro 4-5, VECU, TECU, EBS 5, ABS, IC) have their own connection point on these chassis.
✕For the 9-pin ECS connection of Volvo bus chassis only; other manufacturers and connection points use their own connector.
✕Four of the nine positions in the 9-pin connector are sealed with yellow blanking plugs; this cable does not carry those contacts.

Applications and functionality

Via this connection point, you access the suspension control of the bus chassis using Jaltest software. The units listed below are from the Volvo bus coverage.

Control units you can access

  • ECS, electronic suspension control: Electronic air suspension control, including level regulation and kneeling function.
  • ELF, electronically controlled air suspension: The second suspension variant that Jaltest covers on these chassis.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit, with descriptions of detected faults.
  • View measurement values: Current readings from sensors connected to the control unit, displayed as figures and graphs.
  • Activate components: Directly trigger components to determine whether the fault lies with the part itself or in the wiring.
  • Configure parameters: Write configurations and settings to the control unit.
  • Perform calibrations: For systems where Jaltest offers a calibration procedure, for example after component replacement.
