The Jaltest JDC209A connects the proprietary 16-pin diagnostic connector of DAF to the 16-pin OBD2 port on your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the vehicle side, there is no flat connector but a round black connector with a ribbed coupling ring that you tighten by hand. The grey housing contains sixteen numbered positions, of which fourteen carry sockets and two remain empty. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm.

Through this connection, diagnostic equipment accesses the vehicle network of DAF generations prior to the standardised connector. Depending on model and year of manufacture, you can reach the engine control units UPEC and EDC Cummins Celect on the 95XF, on the CF series the central vehicle computer VIC and the gearbox AS Tronic, as well as the braking, air suspension and tachograph systems of these generations. The difference lies in the generation: the 95XF has no central vehicle computer, whilst the CF85 does. The cable works with Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under the Jaltest CV module.

KEY BENEFITS

Reaches the engine control units UPEC with unit pumps and EDC Cummins Celect on the 95XF.
On the CF series also the central vehicle computer VIC, the gearbox AS Tronic and the instrument cluster DIP-4.
Braking systems (ABS and EBS), air suspension (ECAS-2 and ECAS-3) and the tachograph (MTCO and DTCO) are covered by the same connector.
Single cable for the 95XF and XF95 and for the first CF- and LF-generation vehicles.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The vehicle-side connector is round with a ribbed coupling ring, not the flat D-shaped OBD2 connector; the figure 16 refers to the number of positions in that round connector.
From Euro IV (from October 2005) DAF switched to the standardised 16-pins OBD2 connector; if your vehicle is Euro 4 or newer, you will not need this cable.
Coverage varies by generation: the 95XF has no central vehicle computer, whereas the CF85 does, plus maintenance system and additional heating modules.
At 28 to 30 cm the cable is short, so you work close to the connector in the cab.

Applications and functionality

Via this connection you access the truck's control units using Jaltest software. Which units are present depends on model and year of manufacture: a 95XF carries considerably less electronics than a CF85. The units below are from Jaltest's DAF coverage.

Control units you can access

  • UPEC, engine management with unit pumps: The fuel injection control of the 95XF.
  • EDC Cummins Celect, engine management with unit injectors: The control system for Cummins engines in the 95XF.
  • VIC, central vehicle computer: The coordinating unit of the CF series.
  • AS Tronic, automated gearbox: The shift control, with a separate input for transmission parameters.
  • ABS C / ABS D / ABS D-E and EBS / EBS 2: Brake and brake management systems.
  • EST-32 / EST-42, auxiliary brake: Retarder control.
  • ECAS-2 4x2 / ECAS-2 6x2 / ECAS-3, electronically controlled air suspension: Axle level adjustment.
  • MTCO and DTCO, tachograph: Analogue and digital tachograph.
  • DIP-4, instrument panel and Service, maintenance system: Instrument panel and service indicator, with unit serial number and software version.
  • EMAS, electrohydraulic power steering, ACH-EA and ACH-EW, air and water heating, starter interlock, ALS-S and CDS-3: Steering, heating and safety modules.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit, with descriptions of detected faults.
  • View live data: Current sensor values connected to the control unit, displayed as figures and graphs.
  • Activate components: Directly trigger components to determine whether the fault lies with the part itself or in the wiring.
  • Configure parameters: Write configurations and settings to the control unit.
  • Perform calibrations: For systems where Jaltest offers a calibration procedure, for example after component replacement.
  • Reset maintenance: Reset the service indicator via the vehicle's maintenance system.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. This cable works with any DAF equipped with the round 16-pin diagnostic connector. Jaltest CV covers the following series; the final year follows the Euro IV transition — type approval October 2005, all registrations October 2006 — after which the standardised 16-pin OBD2-connector took over. You can identify the connector by the coupling ring around the grey housing.

DAF:

  • 95XF: (1997 - 2002)
  • XF95: (2002 - 2006)
  • CF65: (2001 - 2006)
  • CF75: (2001 - 2006)
  • CF85: (2001 - 2006)
  • LF45: (2001 - 2006)
  • LF55: (2001 - 2006)
💡
Useful to know: The DAF connector is circular, with a ribbed coupling ring and a grey front with numbered pin positions — quite different from the flat, D-shaped OBD2-connector, even though both have sixteen positions. Of the sixteen pins, fourteen are populated here. From Euro IV (October 2005) onwards, DAF switched to the standardised 16-pin OBD2 connector. Check the connector in your cab before ordering.
