The Jaltest JDC608A is the adapter cable for Honda outboard motors equipped with the manufacturer's proprietary 4-pin diagnostic connector; on the interface side, it terminates in the 16-pin OBD2 socket of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. The engine-side connector is easy to identify: a square black housing containing a pale green, translucent plastic insert around a black core with flat pins. Honda uses two versions side by side on the PGM-FI engine management system — a 2-pin and this 4-pin variant. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm.

Once connected, the Jaltest software accesses the ECM PGM-FI, the outboard motor's engine control module. The 4-pin version provides full functional coverage: fault codes, live data, component actuation, parameters, calibration and reset. This is considerably more than the 2-pin version, from which Jaltest reads only live data and calibration — no fault codes and no measured values. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕Honda also uses a 2-pin PGM-FI connection: This has its own connector and much more limited coverage.
✕Jaltest covers Honda engine control only; the control panel and instruments have no separate modules in the coverage.
✕Identify the correct connector by the pale green holder in the square black housing: A different colour or shape indicates a different connection.
✕At 28 to 30 cm the cable is short: If the connection sits deep under the engine cover, the Jaltest Link will hang very close to it.

Applications and functionality

Via this connection you access the engine control unit of the Honda outboard motor using Jaltest software. For Honda, this is the only module in the coverage: the control panel and instruments have no separate interface. The 4-pin version provides the full feature set, whilst the 2-pin variant is limited to live data and calibration. The module below is from the Honda coverage of Jaltest Marine.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model.This cable fits any Honda outboard motor equipped with the 4-pin PGM-FI connector. Jaltest Marine covers the following BF models in its range; you can identify which version your motor has by checking the pale green connector housing and counting the number of pins on the plug.

Honda:

  • BF40 to BF100: BF40, BF40 JET, BF50, BF60, BFP60, BF65 JET, BF75, BF80, BF90 and BF100
  • BF105 to BF150: BF105 JET, BF115, BF130, BF135, BF140 and BF150
  • BF175 to BF350: BF175, BF200, BF225, BF250 and BF350

Useful to know: The connector is located in the engine bay, on or beside the motor. Honda uses both a 2-pin and a 4-pin PGM-FI connector; this cable is compatible only with the 4-pin version featuring the pale green housing. Count the pins on your motor before ordering.
