The Jaltest JDC628A does not connect to a plug on the engine but to the NMEA 2000 network of the boat. The cable end carries a T-piece with three round screw connections: a connector with five pins, a connector with five sockets, and the branch with the cable in between. In this way the T-piece is inserted into the network backbone and the rest of the equipment remains connected. At the other end is the 16-pin OBD2 connector; the cable measures 28 to 30 cm.

Via the network, the Jaltest software accesses the control units of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 installation: the EMM G2 engine control with the full function set, and the EST, the electronic module of the throttle lever control. The connection only works when the network is powered and the engine is connected to it. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕The EST does not offer reset or live monitoring; from the lever module you read fault codes, measured values, ECU data, parameters and calibration.
✕You need an NMEA 2000 network on board to which the engine is connected, with a coupling in the backbone that you can unscrew and with power on it.
✕Only for the NMEA 2000 version; the same EMM G2 also exists in a serial version with its own connection.
✕The older E-TEC, FICHT RAM and EFI engines have the standard EMM without G2 network; the JDC609.9 is intended for those.

Applications and functions

The cable is intended for workshops that read out Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines with the Jaltest Link. Because the cable sits in the network backbone, you see what the engine reports over that network.

  3. Linking the Link: Connect the OBD2 side to the Jaltest Link.
  4. Powering the network: Switch on the power to the network.
  5. Reading out: Select Evinrude and the G2 model.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The network is decisive, not the model. This cable is for Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboard engines that send their data over an NMEA 2000 network. The models below are covered by the Jaltest Marine coverage; whether your installation has the network can be seen from the round screw connections in the backbone behind the instrument panel.

Good to know: This cable is placed in the network backbone, not plugged into the engine. You therefore need an NMEA 2000 network on board to which the engine is connected, plus a coupling in that backbone that you can open to insert the T-piece between. Trace the network backbone and look for a coupling that can be unscrewed before ordering.
