The Marine adapter cable set for Stationary Engines (70002006) contains four cables that connect the diagnostic connector of a fixed-installation engine to the Jaltest Link. The set covers Caterpillar and Perkins, Volvo Penta and Yanmar, as well as the standardised J1939 connector.

A stationary engine does not power a vehicle but a generator, a pump or another fixed installation. The same engine blocks are also fitted in boats and machines, with the same diagnostic connector. The JDC217.9 covers the 9-pin Deutsch connector according to J1939, which returns on newer blocks regardless of brand. The cables fall under Jaltest Marine.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕The JDC217.9 is listed for the Jaltest Link V9; the other cables in this set also work with the V8.1.
✕For inboard engines, set 70002009 is required, and for outboard engines, set 70002025.
✕The 6-pin Volvo Penta connector (JDC527A) is not included in this set; it belongs to the inboard set.
✕Stationary engines are supplied by many manufacturers, and not every brand is included in this set. Check the connector fitted to the engine itself before ordering.

Applications and functionality

Each cable in this set converts a manufacturer-specific diagnostic connector to the standard connector of the Jaltest Link. What you can do afterwards is determined by the Jaltest software and the coverage table for that block, not by the cable. A stationary engine is read out in the same way as the same block in a vessel or a machine.

How to use it

  1. Check connector: Check which connector is fitted to the engine.
  2. Select cable: Choose the JDC cable for that brand or J1939.
  3. Connect: Connect the cable to the Jaltest Link; the JDC217.9 directly to the V9.
  4. Start software: Open Jaltest on the PC.
  5. Read out: Select the brand and engine, and read out the control unit.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The engine block is what counts, not the installation. A stationary engine is supplied as a standalone drive unit and then built into a generator set, a pump installation or a vessel. The same diagnostic connector therefore appears in installations from various builders.

Deutsch 9-pin green (J1939):

  • Brand-independent: On newer blocks, JDC217.9.

Caterpillar and Perkins:

  • Stationary blocks: In generator sets and pump installations, JDC505A.

Volvo Penta:

  • Stationary and marine: 8-pin connector, JDC528A.

Yanmar:

  • Stationary and marine: 6-pin connector, JDC538A.

Good to know: A stationary engine has the same diagnostic connector as the same block in a boat or a machine. Which cable that is depends on the engine manufacturer, not on the installation around it. Check the connector fitted to the engine itself before ordering.
