The Jaltest JDCOBD6 is a converter Adapter designed to enable communication with vehicles using older diagnostic protocols. The Adapter features a 16-pin OBD2 connector and converts signals from the PWM (J1850) and VPW (J1850) protocols to the CAN bus protocol. This allows the use of modern diagnostic equipment, which primarily communicates via CAN, on older vehicle systems, especially in light commercial vehicles.

This Adapter is specifically developed for use with the Jaltest diagnostic interface. It functions as an intermediary placed between the vehicle's OBD2 port and the tester's diagnostic cable. The internal electronics actively translate the protocols, supporting diagnostics, fault code reading, and live data viewing on compatible vehicles with PWM or VPW systems.

Application and functionality:

The JDCOBD6-Adapter is a protocol converter that forms the communication bridge between older vehicle ECUs and modern CAN-based diagnostic equipment.

  • Protocol conversion: Translates the SAE J1850 PWM and SAE J1850 VPW protocols to the CAN bus protocol, ensuring compatibility with modern testers.
  • Diagnostics on older vehicles: Enables the use of diagnostic systems such as Jaltest on older delivery vans and light commercial vehicles not yet equipped with a CAN bus system.
  • Plug-and-play: Functions as a direct Adapter between the vehicle port and the diagnostic cable without the need for additional configuration.

Compatible vehicles and Application:

This converter is designed for light commercial vehicles and delivery vans equipped with an OBD2 connector but communicating via the J1850 PWM or J1850 VPW protocols. This mainly concerns American-made vehicles from before the general introduction of the CAN bus (around 2008).

Chrysler/Dodge:

  • Various models that use the J1850 VPW protocol.

Ford:

  • Various models that use the J1850 PWM protocol, such as older generations of the E-Series, Ranger, and Transit.

General Motors (Chevrolet, GMC):

  • Various models that use the J1850 VPW protocol, such as older generations of the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Important: Before purchasing the product, always check the connection and the protocol used by your vehicle. These may vary by model and year.
