The Jaltest Trailer is a complete diagnostic system for trailers and semi-trailers: A case containing the Jaltest Link V9, the interface unit you connect to the diagnostic connector of the trailer connects to, and the software that runs on your own laptop.
This module does not cover engines and vehicle makes but focuses on braking systems and trailer electronics. You access the EBS and ABS control systems, the air suspension, the tyre pressure monitoring and the cooling unit as well. Coverage follows the installed system rather than the trailer manufacturer.
This set contains everything you need to perform diagnostics: The Link and the software activation Modular Trailer, with the first year of use included. We activate the module as soon as you receive the device, based on the serial number of the supplied Link; you don't need to submit anything yourself. A laptop and the trailer cables you'll need to arrange separately.
KEY BENEFITS
POINTS TO NOTE
What's in the box
The case contains the hardware with which you establish the connection, as well as the software licence that the Trailer module unlocks. The hardware is identical to that in the standalone kit 70001052; the difference between the diagnostic readers lies in the software module, not in the case. Below you'll find details of each component and its corresponding reference number.
Hardware
- Jaltest Link V9 (70001015): The diagnostic interface that connects to the trailer's diagnostic socket, with 26-pin DB26 to the cable and USB-C to your PC.
- Multipin Kit (70002001): Twenty multipins JTP01 through JTP10, each available in two colours, connection cable JTP101 and two power cables — JDC10AM2 with battery clamps and JDC20AM2 for the cigarette lighter socket. Use these to connect directly into a connector that has no dedicated diagnostic cable.
- OBD cable, 16-pin (JDC213.9): The standard cable for the regular diagnostic connection.
- USB-C cable (JDC107.9B): The connection between the Link and your laptop.
- Extension cable, 100 cm (JDC100): With a 26-pin DB26 connector, the wide connector on the Link itself. Useful when the socket is mounted on the trailer and you want to measure alongside it.
- Carrying case (70003015): The compact version, 505 x 381 x 146 mm.
Software
- Software (293500): The one-time purchase that unlocks the Modular Trailer module. With Modular, the first year of use is included, so no separate software licence is required.
- Jaltest GRP: The workshop software from Cojali for customers, vehicles and reports, available in Basic, Synchro and Enterprise modes; these modes are free to activate.
A laptop and the trailer cables does not come with this. See Cables and computer further down this page.
Which trailers and systems are covered
With a trailer, Jaltest does not look at the manufacturer but at the installed system. If you search by the name on the side of the semi-trailer, you will usually not find it: coverage runs through the manufacturer of the braking system, the air suspension or the cooling unit. The classification by continent below refers to the country where the brand originates, not the current owner.
System manufacturers covered
Well-known names in the coverage of Jaltest Modular Trailer: Bendix, Cojali, Haldex, Knorr-Bremse and Wabco for the brake systems, and Carrier and Thermo King for the refrigeration units.
All ten system manufacturers, split by continent:
European includes the United Kingdom, Turkey and Russia. Under Other is the name whose origin could not be traced. A name in the list means that there coverage is, not that every generation of each system is fully supported.
Trailer systems
- Electronically controlled brake systems (EBS and TEBS): Brake control with modulators, pressure sensors and wheel speed sensors, including Knorr-Bremse EBS 5 and TEBS trailer systems.
- ABS brake control units: Haldex Modal and Haldex Modular, Knorr-Bremse KB4-TA, Cojali E-ABS and the Bendix trailer brake control on CAN.
- Air suspension (ECAS): Electronically controlled air suspension with height sensors, valve blocks and axle load measurement.
- Tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS): Tyre pressure monitoring, including systems from Haldex and Bendix.
- Wear monitoring: Brake pad wear sensors and reset procedure after replacement.
- Refrigeration units: Control units from Thermo King and Carrier on the refrigerated trailer.
- Telematics: The telematics systems that Jaltest operates within Modular Trailer.
Search by system rather than by trailer
The same braking system is found on dozens of semi-trailers from different manufacturers. You approach it through the system: First the manufacturer, then the generation, and only then the control unit.
What you can do with it
With the Trailer module you read out the control units from the trailer, follow measured values and actuate components on. Additionally, you perform the work required by the software: replacing a modulator, calibrating the brake calculation and the calibration of sensors.
Diagnostics
- Read and clear fault codes: The fault memory of the brake control unit and other modules, with information on the codes.
- Measured values: Values from connected sensors displayed on screen, as figures and in graphical format.
- Control components: Control components of the brake and air suspension system to verify their operation.
- ECU data: Component number, serial number and software version of the control unit.
- Parameters and calibrations: Configure control units and adjust systems.
Maintenance and calibration
- Modulator replacement: A guided procedure that transfers the parameters from the old unit and writes them to the new one.
- Brake parameter configuration: Tyre size and circumference, axle load distribution and centre of gravity, and the resulting brake calculation.
- Ride height calibration: Set the normal ride height and the raise and lower heights of the air suspension.
- Sensor calibration: Height sensors following replacement of the sensor, valve block or control unit, and axle load sensors for accurate weight measurement.
- Wear sensors reset: After replacing the brake pads.
- Service interval reset: Reset the service interval after maintenance, where the control unit supports it.
Cables and computer
The kit contains the 16-pin OBD cable for the standard connector. A trailer often does not have one: many brake control units carry their diagnostic line on the unit itself or on a dedicated connector, and that requires a separate cable. The software itself runs on a Windows PC.
- Trailer cable kit (70002024): The JDC103A cable for Wabco and Knorr-Bremse, the JDC108A for Haldex EB+/TRS and TPMS, and the JDC110A for trailer-CAN to ISO 7638-1.
- Haldex: JDC101A for Modal-ABS and JDC102A for Modular-ABS, plus the JDC108A from the cable kit.
- Knorr-Bremse: JDC111A for KB4-TA-ABS and JDC220A for EBS 5, which connects in-line between the control unit and the wiring harness.
- Bendix and Cojali: JDC123A for Bendix trailer brake control on CAN, JDC122A for Bendix tyre pressure monitoring and JDC117A for Cojali E-ABS.
- Trailer-CAN: JDC110A to ISO 7638-1 at 24 volt and JDC110B to ISO 7638-2 at 12 volt.
- Computer: The software runs on Windows. Cojali supplies the Jaltest Rugged PC and the A140 Rugged PAD; both are listed separately in our online shop.
Which cable you need is determined by the control unit on the trailer and not the name of the bodybuilder. Check the trailer itself to determine which system is fitted before ordering: Check the nameplate on the modulator and count the number of pins on the connector.
Licence and renewal
With Modular you purchase the software activation and the first year of use in one transaction. From the second year onwards, you renew with the update licence (29051500), each time for a further twelve months. As long as your licence remains active, you'll receive all new software versions for trailer systems.
- Subscription period: Twelve months from activation, included with the software activation.
- Renewal: Annually, with the update licence (29051500).
- Installations: Maximum of five PCs. Jaltest hardware is always required to run the software.
- Registration: Upon activation, after each new software version, and thereafter every six months.
- Additional modules: A module purchased later will be aligned with your current licence; you pay on a pro-rata basis.
- No renewal: The module is blocked until you purchase the update licence.
Optional add-ons
In addition to the Trailer module there are add-ons available for separate purchase. They are not necessary to diagnose, but they expand the reference library, the support or tools. Below is what comes with trailers and semi-trailers.
- INFO Plus for Modular (70605043): The wiring diagrams and guided repair procedures. Purchase one licence for each modular licence your equipment holds.
- Knorr-Bremse Diagnostics Add-on (71502007): Knorr-Bremse's own software, featuring original technical information integrated into Jaltest. Requires a valid modular licence or CV licence. Renewal is carried out with 71602007; the module becomes locked once that renewal or modular licence expires.
- Knorr-Bremse Trailer Diagnostics (79301002): The standalone version, limited to trailer systems. Requires a Jaltest hardware kit and a product modification to the Add-on for integration with Jaltest.
- Jaltest ETM (70001007): The external tester for measuring EBS and ABS modulators, wheel speed sensors and wear sensors independently. Works only with an active CV or modular licence, is not supplied as a standalone product and does not work on handhelds.
- Jaltest PTE (50004001): Portable power supply for the trailer, enabling measurements without the tractor connected.
- Jaltest SST (50004002) and WST (50004011): Separate testers for wheel speed sensors and wear sensors.
- Jaltest TPMS (50004016): The equipment for tyre pressure monitoring.
- Jaltest ATS: One year's access to Cojali's English-language technical support desk. Runs automatically; cancellation must be given in writing up to thirty days before the expiry date.
- Manufacturer module (29469): Selection by system manufacturer rather than vehicle brand. This module cannot be obtained separately and requires Modular Truck, Modular Bus or both; Modular Trailer alone is insufficient.
