The Autel MaxiIM IM508 DB15 to OBD2 adapter cable is the primary connection cable between the key programmer and the vehicle's diagnostic port. This Adapter is equipped with a 15-pin DB15 connector on the diagnostic device side and a standard 16-pin J1962 OBD2 plug for vehicle connection. The main purpose of the cable is to supply power voltage from the vehicle battery to the reading device and to facilitate bidirectional data communication. The cable housing is equipped with ribbed strain reliefs at both ends to prevent wire breakage from frequent plugging and unplugging in the workshop.

During use, this main cable directs network protocols, such as CAN bus and K-line signals, directly from the vehicle network to the tablet's internal hardware. This is essential for successfully performing communication processes, such as IMMO calibrations, learning new transponder keys, and reading parameters from the engine control unit. Once the 16-pin plug is inserted into the diagnostic port, the circuit closes and initialization begins with the connected control units (ECUs). Because the pin configuration in the connector is specifically tailored to the device architecture, this cable functions solely as a physical data bridge for compatible Autel MaxiIM diagnostic equipment.

ADVANTAGES

The DB15 connector features two fixed locking screws for a secure, mechanical connection to the tablet housing.
Both connectors feature an integrated flexible strain relief to prevent wear on the internal wiring during handling.
Supports the simultaneous transfer of 12V power and the data signals required to access the immobilizer system.

ATTENTION POINTS

Only compatible with specific Autel MaxiIM programmers and does not work with diagnostic equipment from other brands.
Has a fixed maximum cable length, which may require an additional extension cable for recessed or hard-to-reach diagnostic ports.

Applications and functionalities

This adapter cable provides the necessary physical connection for the following diagnostic tasks and processes.

  • Power supply: Directly supplies power from the 16-pin OBD2 port to the circuit board of the connected diagnostic tablet.
  • Key programming: Forms the communication channel for reading, writing, and verifying cryptographic IMMO data in the vehicle modules.
  • System diagnostics: Technically enables reading fault codes (DTCs) and retrieving live sensor data from all accessible CAN networks.

Compatible devices

This DB15 main cable has a specific internal pin routing and works exclusively with the hardware listed below.

💡
Good to know: Always check before use that the locking screws on the DB15 connector are hand-tightened on the device. This prevents unintended interruptions in the power circuit during the critical process of writing key data.
