The Autool SVB208 is an inspection camera. It features a 6.25 mm camera head on a braided hose one metre long, with the head steerable 210 degrees in two directions and a bend radius of 32 mm. Recording is at 1920 × 1080, with audio.
This model is unique in its range for featuring digital zoom in three steps: two-, four- and eightfold magnification. This lets you assess a scratch or crack without moving the probe, which is often impossible in confined spaces. The image appears on the built-in screen, so no smartphone is needed, and recordings are saved to the supplied 32 GB memory card.

Application and functionality
An inspection camera pays for itself the moment dismantling is not required to see what is going on. The question then is whether the image can be assessed properly: distinguishing a scratch from a crack demands getting closer, and in tight spaces the probe cannot always reach.
The Autool SVB208 supports the following imaging and operating functions:
- Camera head steering: 210 degrees in two directions via the control wheel, with a bend radius of 32 millimetres.
- Digital zoom: Twofold, fourfold and eightfold magnification, without moving the probe.
- Photo and video: JPG for stills, AVI with audio for video, at 1920 by 1080.
- Image rotation: Tilt the image so the display matches the angle at which you are looking.
- Lighting: Six LEDs in the head, three brightness levels plus off.
- Playback on device: Review recordings without removing the card.
- Storage on memory card: Removable card up to 32 GB; a 32 GB card is supplied.
How to use it
- Charge the device: Via the Type-C port at 5 volts; fast charging is not supported.
- Insert the memory card: The supplied 32 GB card goes into the slot on the side.
- Switch on: Press the power button for three seconds; the screen displays the camera image immediately.
- Lay the hose straight and insert the probe: Do not operate the control wheel with a coiled hose.
- Adjust light and zoom: Three brightness levels, and zoom at two, four or eight times magnification.
Special features and capabilities
A few features concern not the image but the construction and what the device can withstand.
- Magnetic base: The device stays on steel, freeing both hands during insertion.
- Hose with tungsten wire braid: The steering mechanism is rated for approximately 20,000 steering movements.
- Overheat protection: The device switches itself off once the probe exceeds 85 degrees.
- Menu in fourteen languages: Set on first use.
Where to use it
The device is deployed where dismantling is disproportionate to the question that needs answering, and where the image must be assessed rather than merely viewed.
- Combustion chamber: Through the spark plug hole, to inspect the piston crown and valves.
- Air conditioning evaporator: Behind the dashboard, where disassembly would otherwise take hours.
- Exhaust and catalytic converter: To assess the interior without dismantling.
