The Autool SDT206 is a professional smoke leak detector designed to identify leaks in sealed vehicle systems. The smoke generation operates through controlled heating, with a built-in pump providing independent compressed air supply without requiring an external compressor. The unit delivers a constant operating pressure of up to 18 psi and air displacement up to 6 liters per minute. Power is drawn directly from the 12V vehicle battery using the supplied battery clamps. This type of leak detection is specifically engineered for low-pressure circuits, such as intake, exhaust, crankcase, and EVAP systems across various motor vehicles.
During the diagnostic procedure, the machine simplifies smoke injection with separate control buttons for air-only testing and smoke testing. The pressure regulation and actual flow rate can be precisely monitored via the built-in analog pressure gauge and rotary dial flowmeter, allowing the technician to fine-tune the supply to match the system capacity being tested. For leak visualization, the system fills sealed lines with dense smoke; when this smoke escapes, it immediately marks the location of a crack or poor connection. Practical operation is further enhanced by a transparent fluid sight glass and an integrated drain valve to safely remove excess or contaminated test fluid after the diagnostic process.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Application and Functionality
The Autool SDT206 is engineered with specific features to make the testing process efficient and controlled within professional diagnostic environments.
- Air Mode: Activates only the internal compressor to fill the sealed system with clean compressed air. This allows you to detect pressure drops using the pressure gauge first, without unnecessarily consuming smoke fluid or introducing contamination into the system.
- Smoke Mode: Engages the internal heating element. The fluid is converted into dense smoke that, driven by the pumps, flows into the test lines within ten seconds for visual detection of cracks and leaks.
- Flow Control: The amount of air or smoke pumped into the system is infinitely adjustable via a mechanical dial knob. The flow meter with glass tube and indicator displays the throughput volume in liters per minute directly.
Special Features and Capabilities
To prevent damage to both the device and the vehicle, this smoke tester is equipped with various safety and monitoring mechanisms.
- Integrated Pressure Monitoring: The large analog pressure gauge on the front panel allows you to pressurize the test circuit. If the gauge drops back when pumping stops, this indicates pressure loss. This way, even micro-leaks that are not visually apparent can be detected.
- Thermal Protection: The device is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor. Once the heating element reaches its operating limit due to intensive use, the red alarm indicator lights up and power to the element is paused to prevent dry running or overheating.
- Transparent Fluid Management: On the front is a fluid level indicator that displays the current contents between minimum and maximum. Via a valve on the underside, unused or aged test oil can be easily drained after a test run.
Compatible Vehicles and Systems
Thanks to the wide operating pressure range and included adapter fittings, the smoke machine is suitable for many different low-pressure diagnostic applications.
- System Type: EVAP fuel vapor recovery systems, crankcase ventilation, intake manifolds, exhaust systems, turbo circuits, cooling systems, and interior seals on doors and windows.
- Vehicle Category: Passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats with a 12V electrical system.
- Diagnostic Application: Detecting cracked vacuum lines, worn gaskets, leaking EGR valves, damaged intercoolers, and missing seals.
