The Autool BT30 is a memory saver. It maintains system voltage while you remove the battery via the OBD port. Radio codes, seat positions, windows, learned values and fault memory remain intact, so you won't need to reconfigure half the vehicle after replacement.
Pay attention to how it's powered: the BT30 has no internal battery. You connect it with clamps to a second, fully charged 12V battery, which supplies the power. The display shows voltage and current simultaneously, making it equally useful as a quiescent current meter: pull fuses one by one and see where the consumption drops.

Application and functionality
On a modern vehicle, disconnecting the battery is no longer without consequences. Codes, settings, learned values and fault memory depend on that voltage, and resetting them can take longer than the battery swap itself. The BT30 maintains voltage via the OBD port and shows on a display that it's actually delivering – because a memory saver you can't see working isn't certainty, it's just an assumption.
The Autool BT30 supports the following functions:
- Battery voltage maintenance: Supplies power to the vehicle's electrical system via the OBD connector whilst the battery is disconnected.
- Voltage reading: Displays the vehicle's electrical system voltage continuously on screen.
- Current reading: Shows the actual current draw of the vehicle at any given time, alongside voltage.
- Parasitic current detection: Pull fuses one by one and identify where the current drain disappears.
- On and off switching: Control via the device's switch, allowing you to connect without any power present.
How to use it
- Switch off: Before connecting anything.
- Clamp to the spare battery: Red to positive, black to negative, on a fully charged 12V battery.
- Insert the plug into the OBD port: Of the vehicle you're about to work on.
- Switch on and read the display: It must show voltage before you proceed.
- Only then disconnect the battery: And keep an eye on the display while working.
Special features and capabilities
The safety features protect not only the device itself, but primarily the vehicle's electrical systems to which it is connected.
- Overcurrent protection: The 3 amp fuse activates in the event of a circuit fault and thereby protects the vehicle's control units.
- Reverse polarity protection: Connecting incorrectly to the auxiliary battery causes no damage.
- Pre-connection voltage check: The display is specifically designed to verify that the auxiliary battery has sufficient voltage; a deeply discharged battery will prevent uninterrupted switching.
