The Autool BT260 circuit tester is engineered for diagnosing electrical systems in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and agricultural machinery. With a broad measurement range of 0 to 65V, this diagnostic tool is compatible with 12V, 24V, and 48V systems. The tester draws power directly from the included battery clamps or the vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter socket, eliminating the need for internal batteries. The device is purpose-built to quickly identify short circuits, broken wires, and contact resistance in complex vehicle electrical networks, without requiring you to manually connect external power cables.

During diagnostics, the circuit tester measures voltage signals through the integrated copper probe, combined with the additional ground clamp to complete the circuit. Beyond passive measurement, the tool can actively control components such as cooling fans, relays, and windshield wiper motors by manually applying positive or ground voltage via the integrated toggle switch. A polarity indicator with LED lighting instantly shows circuit status, while the illuminated color LCD screen displays precise readings for DC voltage, AC voltage, and resistance. If a short circuit or overload occurs, the automatic circuit protection activates immediately to safeguard both the tester and vehicle electronics, then automatically restarts the device.

KEY FEATURES

Fixed 12-meter test cable — Reaches the full length of any vehicle, including tractors and trailers, without extension cords.
Works with 12V, 24V, and 48V — Use one tool across passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and agricultural equipment.
Measures AC voltage too — Captures peak, minimum, frequency, and duty cycle—essential for crankshaft sensors, alternator ripple, and PWM signals.
Self-resetting circuit protection — Cuts power during overload and restarts automatically, with no fuses to replace.

IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS

Do not use on sensor wires and communication lines — Applying voltage to circuits connected to the ECU can damage the electronics.
Rated current of 1 to 10A — Above that threshold, power delivery stops; high-draw components cannot be controlled directly.
Test cable is permanently attached — The 12-meter cable cannot be disconnected, making storage in the hard case less convenient.
Powered by the vehicle — The tester cannot operate independently; a dead battery requires an external power source.

Applications and Functionality

The Autool BT260 offers multiple measurement modes for efficiently testing and diagnosing vehicle electrical systems and sensors.

  • DC Voltage Measurement: Test battery voltage and power supply lines in a range of 0 to 65V with 0.1V resolution. Used for checking constant and switched circuits.
  • AC Voltage Measurement: Records maximum and minimum voltage values including frequency and duty cycle. Essential for testing crankshaft sensors, alternator ripple, and PWM-controlled signals.
  • Resistance Measurement: Measures actual resistance values between test probe and ground clamp from 0 to 200 kΩ to detect poor ground connections, corrosion, or internal wire resistance.
  • Diode Test: Checks forward and reverse bias direction of diodes in the electrical circuit, practical for diagnosing blocking diodes in fuse boxes and alternators.

Special Features and Capabilities

Beyond standard measurement functions, this tester is equipped with active features that speed up troubleshooting.

  • Component Activation: Using the physical switch, the technician sends battery voltage or a ground signal directly to the test probe. This allows actuators, starter motors, and lights to be tested for operation instantly.
  • Polarity and Continuity Detection: Provides instant visual feedback via red LED for positive or green LED for ground. At complete continuity of 0.0Ω, an audible signal also sounds for blind wiring checks.
  • Signal and Wire Tracing: Makes irregularities in signal patterns visible, for example with MAP sensors, and traces cables or components from the fuse to the load to locate short circuits.
  • Automatic Short Circuit Protection: The device features thermal protection with a rated current of 1 to 10A. When exceeded, current flow stops immediately, preventing wire burnout or fuse damage during testing.

💡
Good to Know: Exercise extreme caution when manually applying 12V or 24V in modern vehicles. Never use the activation function on sensor cables or communication lines such as the CAN-bus that are directly connected to engine management. Disconnect the component being tested from the network as a precaution before applying external voltage.
