The Autool BT260 circuit tester is designed for diagnosing electrical systems in both passenger cars and heavy commercial vehicles and agricultural machinery. With a wide measurement range of 0 to 65V, this instrument is suitable for 12V, 24V, and 48V systems. The tester is powered directly via the included battery clamps or the vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter, eliminating the need for internal batteries. The device is specifically developed for quickly locating short circuits, wire breaks, and contact resistances in complex vehicle networks without the need to manually pull external power cables.
During diagnostic work, the circuit tester measures voltage signals via the integrated copper probe, combined with the additional ground clamp for a closed circuit. Besides passive measurement, the device offers the ability to directly control components such as cooling fans, relays, and windshield wiper motors by manually injecting power or ground via the integrated toggle switch. A polarity indicator with LED lighting immediately shows the status of the circuit, while the illuminated LCD color screen displays accurate measurements for DC voltage, AC voltage, and resistance. In case of short circuit or overload, the automatic current protection immediately intervenes to protect both the tester and the vehicle electronics, after which the device restarts automatically.
Applications and Features
The Autool BT260 offers multiple measurement modes for efficient testing and diagnosing of vehicle electronics and sensors.
- Direct Current Measurement (DC): Measures battery voltage and power lines in a range of 0 to 65V with a resolution of 0.1V. Used for checking constant power and switched circuits.
- Alternating Current Measurement (AC): Records maximum and minimum voltage values including frequency and duty cycle. This is essential for checking crankshaft sensors, alternator ripple, and PWM-controlled signals.
- Resistance Measurement: Measures the actual resistance value between the test probe and the ground clamp from 0 to 200 kΩ to detect poor ground contacts, corrosion, or internal wire resistance.
- Diode Test: Checks the forward and reverse direction of diodes in the electrical circuit, which is practical for diagnosing blocking diodes in fuse boxes and alternators.
Special Functions and Capabilities
In addition to the standard measurement functions, this tester is equipped with active features aimed at speeding up the troubleshooting process.
- Component Activation: With the physical switch, the technician can directly send battery voltage or a ground signal to the test probe. This allows actuators, starter motors, and lamps to be tested directly for functionality.
- Polarity and Continuity Detection: Provides immediate visual feedback via the red LED (power) or green LED (ground). When full continuity (0.0Ω) is present, an acoustic signal also sounds for blind wiring checks.
- Signal and Wire Tracing: Enables viewing irregularities in signal shapes (such as with MAP sensors) and tracing cables or components from the fuse to the consumer to pinpoint short circuits.
- Automatic Short Circuit Protection: The device is thermally protected (nominal current 1 to 10A). When the limit is exceeded, current flow stops immediately, preventing wiring or fuse burnout during testing.
